gossamer dances on summer breeze

another two sample piece of mood stretching.

i don't have any preconceived musical idea when i start, just a process that includes chance, a lot of editing and audio effects. upon finishing this one, it reminded me of something ralph vaughn williams might do if he wanted to make this type of soundscape and had accesses to modern computers, audio equipment (and a very, very little talent) . 😀

but hey, i'm happy with how it came out. please enjoy if its your type of thing.

  • This is beautiful. Would you please consider sharing more about the effects and process you utilized? Thank you.

  • sure... i'd be happy to. i'll try to find the AUM project and take a screenshot and post it here.

  • Excellent. @jwmmakerofmusic needs to have a lis

  • Lovely @wag… it’s funny how people on the forum seem to have similar ideas at the same time completely by chance… just started listening to this literally a minute after stopping working on something based on a RVW piece… spooky 😱
Beautiful piece by the way, a bit like RVW meets Blade Runner towards the end ? + nice title and art… 😊

  • thanks everyone for the comments.

@geotony that’s cool. I’d like to hear you piece when you’re finished. i remember reading something about ideas floating in the air around us, like radio signals in the ether, and its not uncommon for two or more people to tune into those ideas simultaneously…. or something like that.

@myapologies i haven’t forgotten. still looking for that file. at any given time I might have 2 dozen or more things in progress between my phone and iPad. i jump between them until one of them sounds finished or I get tired of listening to it.😬. while that happening l’ll likely change the name of the project as well. not very organized, but it seems to work for me. but I will write a little something about the process in my next posting …promise.

  • Ralph Vaughn Williams? I’ll be back in a bit…

Nice! ITunes “Essentials” has 41 pieces and a 5 hour timeline. I wasted too much time lientening to jazz, pop, rock and ignored these relatively modern English composers but their instincts just seem to fit where I am at in my development as a listener of music.

I’ll need to do the work to make the leap to RVW composed soundscapes.

Listening to the Lark Ascending…. Really good.

  • I agree with LinearLineman, jwm would like this recording.

  • @McD , The Lark Ascending is often voted peoples favourite piece of classical music here in England (I won’t offend my Scottish, Welsh and Irish neighbours by suggesting it’s theirs🙏)
For a completely different take on RVW try Sinfonia Antarctica, his 7th symphony, which makes use of music he wrote for the soundtrack of the 1948 film Scott of the Antarctic.

EDITED TO FIX A RUN OF TYPOS: I can only say I was predisposed to ignore RVW's work.

I have ignored the work of 19th century english composers. This is body of work to be proud of. Perhaps I'm ready to hear music that sits comfortably in the classical traditions.
