Sweet melody during lunch on FLSM

Another little melody. I hope someone thinks it’s sweet too, I did it cuz I was craving some sugar lol

  • It is a sweet melody. A well constructed track.

  • Very sweet, indeed!!!
The beat is so inviting, and the melody is lovely.
The drums is a bit on the loud side.
I wanted the melody to float above in the mix.
    Thank you.

Thanks Wax, I am glad you also thought there was a sweetness to it. It means I was successful at the very least in conveying the “emotion” there… I am not trained in music so my language is lacking… I know. How else would you talk about that specific thing, namely, listening to something that makes you “feel” a sweetness to it? Is that the byproduct of a combination of chord arrangements (like minors and majors), or how would you discuss that idea more formally?

For me, the major tonality has a happiness I associate with sweetness. And sweetness can mean other things. Not just a sugary flavor, but something wholesome and pure, like the love from a child or a dog wagging it's tail. Your melody is pure and uncomplicated. Being in the upper ranges gives it an almost child-like happiness. That's my take on it.

I can understand exactly what you are saying. For my sake of understanding music intuitively better, let me ask you a question. Assuming that this same “note arrangement” was in a much better produced piece, with better tempo and better sounds. Would you still have the same opinion on the description of sweetness on the piece itself?

  • I think it would depend on the instrumentation. Certain sounds might take away from that sweetness, others might amplify it. A bassoon sound might lean more humorous while a glockenspiel might lean towards sweetness. It's really all subjective. If part of a melody or a sound reminds me of something I associate with sweetness, then to me it is sweet.

Great, thanks for the explanation again. For me music sometimes elicits certain emotions that I can only describe with descriptions of shapes and tastes. I can sometimes also “feel” it in color shades like a some sort of 3d spectrogram. Its something that I have tried to understand whether it’s a subjective phenomena or just the general essence of human interaction with sound (making my subjective description just that, a subjective description of a generally normal experience/interaction, as opposed of a subjective way of processing sound in my own head). I have read a little about synesthesia and am wondering if that’s what I am kinda experiencing. I read this over again and I feel I am not clear enough. No need to answer to this really, but if anyone is interested in helping me understand this personal inquiry I will really appreciate it. Cheers y’all!

Thank you man! You guys are inspiring me to make music! I can’t wait to get out of work and make something tonight. I bought the new Nambu synth so I will be using that tonight to set the infrastructure of a melody. Be in the look out! Peace and love y’all!!!

  • Well done. This was a good reminder to switch off my analytical brain and embrace the creativity. Keep up the great work. I mean it. 💪👍

Damn man, I watch your videos all the time so I am thrilled you listened to my melody and liked it! Because of you I got koala sampler lol.

Here is my after work melody, attempting to maintain sweet, using the new Nambu synth, but hoping for less youthfulness while maintaining sweetness I guess.

  • Not sure it’s sweet, just happy! And there’s nothing wrong with that 🌞
Also enjoyed the after work melody, bit darker but a catchy tune nonetheless.

Glad you liked the melody! And yes, I can’t believe I didn’t mention happiness in my description. Thanks for highlighting that!
