I mean if you are using sequential, yamaha montage, jupiter x, behringer deepmind, ... looking for the more similar sound to hardware, no complex sound,

I'm not familiar with those except the Roland Jupiter series.

Not sure if you're noticing the trend here, but it's virtual analog synths that are getting the most nods. You see the same type of responses on other music forums with VA synths for desktop like u-he, Synapse Audio, and Native Instruments being favorites.

So, on iOS, Moog and Korg apps along with the great indie devs mentioned like BeepStreet, TAL Audio, Harry Gohs/VirSyn, etc. are good places to start.

  • As you have a Jupiter X (great synth, love my Xm) you might take a look at a Roland Cloud subscription and their Zenology Pro synth inside ZenBeats. You could then use the same tones on hardware and software…

  • Haven’t seen DRC mentioned. Sometimes I forget I’m not playing a hardware analog when using it. It has a great sound with some really nice coloration

  • Lisbon from Korg Gadget.

    Synthamster 2.

    1,2 and Player... Nice. <3

I have been using the Synthmaster series for a long time and the sound is wonderful.
However, I removed them from the main because they have bugs mainly around presets with each update and are not practical.
The Player that was updated yesterday will also lose all user presets and will not be synced. Also, the current version of Synthmaster 1 seems to lose the desktop preset upgrade every time the app is closed, and every time it starts up, all but the initial presets disappear.

I can't think of an alternative app, but combining some of KORG's synths is powerful. However, it does not support AUV3...

I’ve been losing the desktop update every time too… dang.

Heard some complaints of this.. lost my favorites once or twice. I think SM3 is in the works..

  • Nanostudio 2's Obsidian synth. Not AUv3 (though I wish it were), but incredibly flexible. Worth the price of the app alone.

Then if making a Trance lead, combining Obsidian with Zeeon and boom! Trance lead!

Have you tried building one just the way you like it, with Drambo?

    This.

And even the built in GarageBand stuff can sound really good in the right hands.

  • My favorite synth on iOS sounds really good too :)

  • Zeeon. Still one of my favourite synths of any kind, soft- or hardware.

+1 for Obsidian. Great sounding synth and the amount of user patches on patchstorage let’s you surf through presets for hours.

I'll have to sift through Patchstorage then to see if there are any "real world instrument" (sample-based) presets. Looking for "world instruments" like from Asia, Middle East, etc. 🙂

Take a look/listen at Waldorf Nave and Nlog Pro. Both are older synths but still very capable. Programmed by my good friend Rolf Wöhrmann, the creator of the Waldorf Iridium.

Do you think Nave will have a 10th anniversary AUv3 update? Neither the plugin nor app version have been updated in a while.

    No, that will not happen.

NLog Pro might well be an older synth, but it’s also a relatively new synth too since the recent-ish significant update.

NLogPro is criminally overlooked. It has a great sounding engine, lots of flexibility for variables, and makes a fairly good MIDIplayer as well.

Good to know about this build in synth, NanoStudio 2 seem really well made! Saw a video from Doug a few days ago and was blown away, such an intuitive user interface.

Is it worth getting at full price in 2022? How does it compare against the top-tier synths: Tera Pro, Layr, TB Flowtones...?

You will find a lot of acoustic instruments, perhaps a few non orchestral (world) as well

I wonder if @Montreal_Music feels the same.

Edit. I made this joke prior to reading earlier comments. Lol.
