Attempt at some sort of house music

Another after work jam, and my first attempt at making some sort of house music, and with more complexity in the lead than my other stuff…. Wooof long sentence….. Kept it simpler in terms of stuff I used. I started with DRC, laid a quick melody and then started messing with Beatcutter to make something that sounded rhythmic. Then I added Nambu and the bass to complement things.

  • I like the beat combined with the almost eerie electronic sounds. Like the music you might hear in a cyberpunk bar in a dangerous part of a dystopian future city.

    Hey wax!

Oh man, your comment just made my day. I was thinking of a space bar, in a shady place and with the color scheme of something like the last Blade Runner movie when I made this. I am so happy I was able to convey that!

  • Brilliant. A dance track for upcoming Halloween. It's like Coil making techno with those creepy spooky sounds. Very edgy and threatening. Nice to see Nambu making an appearance in there. Enjoyed this! 👍

Thanks Spider! I am honored you enjoyed the melody.
I have a question, what’s the best way to design sounds. I normally just do it in the iPad with its own speakers (I do everything like that….). Should I use headphones, and if so, what do you recommend? Thank you!

Absolutely headphones or through a good amp and monitor speakers, otherwise you miss a ton of frequencies from iPad speakers, especially the lower end.
You may create a sound through iPad speakers thinking it sounds right, and then when you play it through headphones or monitors, you may discover it has some bad booming low end in there that wasn't audible through iPad speakers.

All my headphones are Sennheiser, nothing too fancy or top of the range, good enough for the job in their lower price range.

  • Perfect! I will check those out.

  • Definitely "House" music, and I love the darkness of this song.
As if I am entering the "House" of Batman.
Very inviting and invigorating, I love the beat.
    Well done.

Thanks man. I must confess I barely did anything with the drums, play beat 3 saves the dance…. What do y’all recommend to learn more about producing drums.

  • @magnusovi So many good drum apps on iOS. GR16, Elastic Drums, Beathawk, The lumbeat apps, etc etc. it’s how you use the machine that matters in my opinion. Have fun.

How would you use gr16 with LK in AUM? And, in the case of gr16 isn’t the groove box functionality what you are paying for? or is there a great drum synth in it? Thanks!

  • This AUM Project would make a great upload to PatchStorage in the new AUM Platform space.

I feel pretty honored that you would think this is worth sharing. Can you tell be a bit about what the new platform is all about? And how exactly I share the project, is it just sharing the saved AUM file?

  • Great sounds… I heard squeaky gates in the elephant house at one stage… even found I was tapping my toes which is very unusual for me 🦶
