Confused on how to perform live with iPad GarageBand while tweaking track effects on-the-fly

I just re-stumbled on this forum looking for help trying to figure out how to play my GarageBand songs live while tweaking instrument effects (each instrument is a track) on-the-fly, and everywhere else I'm looking, it looks impossible (at least without major performance issues), but now that I'm seeing AudioBus again, I'm wondering if it can solve my problems...

So, I love the Alchemy synths in GarageBand (among other things), and I've written a bunch of songs (many up to 32 tracks), but I'm not seeing an easy way to perform live, in a way where I can easily use a MIDI controller to change effects on different tracks as I go... when I tried it on my last iPad years ago, it kept pausing to say "Optimizing..." (maybe just due to not enough RAM memory), making performing impossible. I gave up at that point. Now that I have a newer iPad, I rarely get the "Optimizing" pop-up, though I think buying the latest iPad will completely prevent those for a while.

Even if the pop-up never happens, it still takes a lot of finger presses and time (5-10 seconds) for me to switch tracks... then, the issue (even after mapping) could be that leaving a track in a certain state of modified effects (from turning knobs etc) could make the track sound weird in another phrase...

So, I've played with Ableton, but that and Logic are sort of unreachable right now... so, if you know of or can think of a way to perform well with GarageBand and a MIDI controller like I'm describing, I'd love to know.

Performing with Garageband on iOS is a bit of an interesting take. It takes all the knowledge you learnt in production and uses it in a live layout. Yep, you're guessing what I'm heading to...Garageband Live Loops.

    Here's a quick demonstration.

So, with the video, I did a live cover of the song, "You are my strength", by Hillsong. I kept it simple by using only one Piano, and the Drummer track, layered on a live loop.

Here's the original for reference, from the "Savior, King" album (which I honestly think is one of the best Rock album of the 2000s, despite it being a "Christian" album)

Now, you can take this further. When you produce a track, you can convert it into a "Live Loops" track. Here's a video showing the process from start to finish.

I also did a thread diving further into Live Loops if you're interested. It's a good place to start, and there are also excellent videos out there.

Now, to answer your question...can you add effects to a live performance? Well, yeah, sorta. Maybe with a combination of AUM, Audiobus 3, and Garageband. But honestly, that's a lot of work. You're better off exporting the audio from Garageband and taking it into an app like AUM, Koala, Loopy Pro, Drambo and doing the live performance there. Garageband's easiest method of live performance is using Live Loops.

Hope this helps. Feel free to check out, and support my content over at...
