Riffer presets - I added a poll.

I enjoy Riffer and it’s many useful features. But I just don’t get their presets.

Let’s say I’ve been working on some ideas with Riffer. As I doodle, I find I like something going on and I save it as a preset. And I go on to make several presets so I can go back an forth between them. That’s all good and helpful.

The problem begins when I want to work on something else with Riffer. Something with different instruments and completely different ideas. I open up Riffer in AUM, set up the new synths or whatever, but there are still the same presets I saved from the other project. I would rather have all new presets now that go along with this new arrangement. What can I do?

If I delete the old presets, then they’re gone for good. If I want to go back to my earlier Riffer session and play with that again, the presets I’ve used and like for that are now gone!

There is a way to supposedly save presets but it forces me to save one at a time; plus there’s no way to know which project I used these on. PLUS this supposed saving doesn’t seem to work anyway. It doesn’t save it anywhere. If I choose to LOAD a preset, it takes me to iCloud drive in my files app; but there’s no folder there for Riffer.

I’ve checked AudioModern website but their manual doesn’t address any of this.

I would like the presets to work in a similar fashion as the ones in StepPolyArp. With that you can easily save presets with each project separately. Much more useful.

So, has anyone here found a way to deal with this? I’ve searched the forum about the topic and see nothing specific. I’m just surprised that no one else is frustrated by this. Sure, Riffer is still useful but this hobbles it from being able to build more complex arrangements.

  • Go to the pencil on the upper right and import and export your presets

Nothing else is available in the app - unless you export the midi (from the same pencil menu)

Thanks, but when I try that, nothing happens. I've saved a preset; then tried importing it; it just takes me to iCloud but there's no Riffer folder there. No preset; no nothin'. Do you see a Riffer folder there? Can you do it?

I have exactly the same problem with Riffer: Why don’t the presets save with the project?

Since I’ve been using Cubasis, I’ve resorted to recording a few bars of any Riffer pattern I like. That solves the problem of patterns disappearing, but also defeats the purpose of a pattern-based sequencer. Maybe Riffer isn’t intended as a pattern-based sequencer; but it would make a great one if it could handle presets more like, say, Pure Acid.

  • Don’t know if this will help, but there is always, Save in AUM.

  • Chordjam has a similar issue, that the presets in the lower area of the screen are not saved with the main "Session" preset, but are meant as a quick recal system for live use and are the same for all Session presets.

I asked Audiomodern about this some months ago, expressing a desire to save the quick presets as part of the main Session preset, and was told that the Chordjam preset system was going to be updated "soon" with something similar to the Playbeat system, but this hasn't happened yet. Maybe a similar change in Riffer is in the pipeline too?

I just loaded up a preset. I use the pencil button in upper right corner. Save. Then to load it click on pencil again, find preset you want, click to the left of the preset name, there’s a white line, and assign to one of the preset pads 1-16 across the bottom.

You also need to press the preset button In the Bottom left, presets with 4 squares, to switch the view, and see the 16 preset pads across the bottom.

Thanks; I will try this again and see if I have more luck.

Yep, they said, “Our upcoming Riffer update will be way more flexible for generating bass-lines.”

I have been using less of Lumbeat’s Drummers since I discovered PB3.. let’s see if Riffer does the same for The Great, iBassist.
    Lumbeat needs Auv3 going forward.

Do NOT hold your breath. Korg even beat him... I don't think it's ever going to happen.
He's busy working on "Bongo Maniac", and "Conga Line"... can't wait for "Girl Singer (plays tambourine)"... lots of returns because there's no singer: just Tamborine.

Loving the AudioModern way... Both on Desktop and iOs... Got almost all their PB3 packs, and Oracle is outstanding. Let's see what Riffer brings.

You have some very precisely named presets there. I salute you.
I found that what had given me problems was that when I chose to save a preset (using Riffer’s method of saving each and every preset separately under that pencil drop down), there wasn’t any Riffer folder in either iCloud or in my Files app. Once I made a folder in Files I was able to point my save into that folder.
Also, I figured I can make some subfolders and name them after the particular session I'm working on so that I can keep collections of presets together.

So, yes you CAN save presets.
BUT I’m still grumbling about it because it’s such a convoluted way to go about it and the time spent can take me out of my creative zone.
Maybe I should make a poll on the subject and add it here.

    @Stochastically
It is not the most intuitive, I’ll definitely second that. Glad you got it sorted though. Cheers.

Awhile ago I got in the habit of always adding the key, tempo, time signature (only if not 4/4) and the date to every session, preset, etc.. I save.

I love the way Piano Motifs saves this info for you (or at least gives you the option to do so)
