Patterning

To me, in terms of ease of use and flexibility, nothing tops Patterning, AuV3 or not.

I used it in this and was pleased with the result.

  • This is pretty freaking chill but also very intriguing. Gj!

  • Cheers, seconded!
Patterning 2 gets me to good music faster than any other instrument, tool or app.

  • It would be so awesome as an AUv3, but it’s definitely still usable as-is.

Wow. I really love this one ! What a deep track. I am sure a project between Jonny Greenwood and Alva Noto would sound like this.

Very cool. Is all that Patterning?

  • Thanks everyone!

@espiegel123 no, just the drums. Although melodic parts are certainly possible and lots of fun to make.

  • Sweet. Patterning is great and more!

    Hi rottencat,
Some deep sounds and interesting beats.
    Love your creation.

  • Patterning 2 is unmatched in so many ways. And it started when I first opened up Patterning and noticed II could import a single folder from Dropbox copying all samples, subfolders and folded structure in one go.
Even today the iOS files import samples workflows is slow , messy or simply not working at all.

And adding the mobile version you can have 16 patterning tracks playiing samples and sending midi note/cc data externally at the same time. Or just use the midi part.

Can’t wait for the Auv3 if the developer hasn’t given up on the iOS biz. He mentioned he was working on it, but that was probably a year or longer ago now. There’s just something fun about the nested circles with a color scheme that pops (unlike that grimly sobering default Patterning 2 theme). In the meantime, I love Sitala (and its 16 tracks!) but I do hope Patterning returns.

Who knows, though, a couple years before this there was dev talk of doing an auv3, or at least updated version of chordjam, which is still the most elegant solution for touchscreen MIDI chords AND keys for leads.

  • Not that the sequencer in Patterning is a slouch by ANY means, but running DrumComputer into Patterning is tons of fun

  • Perfectly right to pleased with the result… great piece… really enjoyed it with the stops and starts…

What’s your routing recommendation to accomplish this?

Also @tpj can you provide any more details on the folder structure trick? Is that to add new custom kits?

  • Patterning is absolutely one of the best. Playbeat, hammerhead, and DrumComputer are my top 3 and most used, but Patterning just inspires me in a different way.
