I sold another album!

edited September 2022 in Other

...on Bandcamp. Another copy, that is, of The Shining Trapezohedron! That's a grand total of….. now wait, let me check. Cross check... yep, I think that is right: total world wide sales now, after a year, on sale, stand at an impressive:

two.

But you know what? I’m good with that. Going to have to send the guy some free tracks or something (that’ll teach him :) ) He has no idea how much he made my day. The slow climb to world spanning success starts here.

Unfortunately, at this rate, I need about another 200,000,000 years to achieve it. I am not sure if the average record label marketing plan takes in geological time periods for the release calendar. Ah well, journey of a thousand miles and all that.. )

Thank you all :) Yes, @NeuM, two is indeed very much better than nothing. :)

I am very grateful to my purchasers, (both of them!), it is the most concrete endorsement of my noises that I could hope for, and frankly, though I won’t be buying that chateau in the South of France with the proceeds any time soon, the gesture of it made my day.

French castles are overrated and a heating nightmare in winter. A burial vault would be a better match for your (beautiful) music 😜.
Congratulations, 2 is a beautiful number. And in France we have this saying "jamais 2 sans 3"

  • :) Myself and my friend Mr Poe do appreciate a nice burial vault. And even HP could rarely resist the allure:

That’s awesome. When I released my solo album, I put it on bandcamp just to share promo codes with friends for downloads, and I guess some major power pop junkies from Spain discovered it through tags. I logged in one day and had an influx of 30+ copies sold. Following the paper trail, I found this big Spanish/Latin American power pop message board community and got to dust off my Spanish to read all about this great album they were going on about, all in its own extensive thread with detailed praise and comparisons and in-depth analysis…mine!

It was so gratifying and one of the happiest little coincidences of my life. I even won their album of the month polls for several months running, up against some actual well-known artists until goddamn Ben Kweller knocked me off. I knew I always hated that guy for a reason.

@oat_phipps : I clearly need to up my tag game! :) I don’t really do social media except for this forum and SoundCloud, so how to up the interest or even awareness of my existence is a dark art to me, and one, frankly, I am not particularly interested in learning. I think I am more of a ‘if you build it, they will come’ sort of person. Despite all evidence of that as a successful strategy to the contrary…

Oh believe me, I’m the same way. “Savvy” friends were encouraging me to hash tag everything I could think of, but I went with one tag, “power pop”, and the universe was in my favor that day. The whole concept of sowing your “personal brand” is atrocious and my conscience could never let me do any of that stuff, even if it’s close to a necessity to get noticed. Yuck.

But good luck doing it the honorable way! I’ll give it a listen next time i’m on and it isn’t 5:20 am with no sleep yet.

  • Congratulations!
Now, the question is, where are the buyers located? Are you an international artist now? ;)

  • Oh, I can see it now…

  • Ha! I somehow doubt it… :)

  • The big money’s all in the touring now anyways 😜

Nice to be properly appreciated I’m sure, next bandcamp Friday, I’ll try and be there!
