question about Chamleon sampler

I have a 2 second wav file I want to trigger with a note on my keyboard. I want to be able to trigger it at will during a song. In Camelot Pro, I've inserted Chameleon. I imported the wav file. I can play it manually, but want to trigger it by pressing a specific note on my midi controller. Is it possible to set this up within Chameleon?

  • Did you route your midi-controller to Chameleon?

While I don't have Camelot Pro but I'm pretty sure it has a way of routing the controller you use to the plug-in you wish to control, in this case Chameleon AUv3.

I don’t own Chameleon so I’m not sure if you can set it up there but you should be able to set it up within Camelot Pro. Once you have Chameleon as a Layer in Camelot, go to Key Ranges at the bottom left and choose which piano key you’d like your sample to be on. Then, select the Midi Settings for that Layer and modify the Transpose and Octave Shift settings until your sample plays on the desired piano key. Let me know if you need more details.

Edit: Or, are you just trying to figure out how to get you midi controller working within Camelot?

Ok, I've placed Chameleon in a Camelot layer. In Camelot, I set the midi input for that layer as the keyboard I want to trigger the sample from. In Chameleon, I created a new preset and loaded the sample. I set the key range (in this case it's C5 for both low and high end of range). When I press C5 on the keyboard, it appears to trigger the sound but I don't hear anything. Do I need to place something after Chameleon in that Camelot layer in order to hear it?

This could be a classic case of 'Which note is actually is the middle C' on some keyboards it's C3 some or C4 or C5.
Try the different octaves on your controller and check which one triggers the 'C5' in Chameleon.

Keep in mind that Camelot and Chameleon may use different octave numbers to refer to the same midi note.

  • I was actually able to set this up with just Camelot by assigning the key to both Play/Pause and Previous Event (Timeline)

That seems odd but if it works, it works? Hopefully it doesn’t cause weird issues down the line if you start adding other samples to trigger.

  • Decided to try setting it up with Chameleon and this time it worked. I finally figured out I was using the wrong version of the plugin (midi processor), when I should have been using the AUV3 instrument version. Works just fine.

Exactly, some apps are off by an octave. So hit a few C’s to see which one it actually is

Glad you got it sorted. Cheers.
