Guitars and amp sims
Does your guitar impact your sound if your using amp sims? So is it worth upgrading my pu’s if I’m only using amp sims?
Comments
Yes of course your guitar will impact the sound. Absolutely.
Normal I’d say absolutely yes, but for the metal and grunge sounds you say you use? Probably not noticeable. I believe you’d be very hard pressed to notice the difference.
Yes it effects the sound, but i doubt you will notice much difference between pretty good and really good, especially if you dont use good amp sims. Different thing is the type of the pickups and their personal sound. For example typical single coil sound is different from humbuckers or p90's etc. Some pickups have more definition even with high gain and some sound muffled. I doubt impedance has as much effect, since you wont be driving the amp sim like real amps etc. But really quiet PU's might get more noise with high gain sounds.
Unless you got really good amp sims, upgrading the sim would have more effect unless you have wrong type of PU's for the music you want to play or they are some utterly crap ones. If you have decent PU's of the right type, its most likely not worth upgrading them. But if you PU's are really crappy and you got good amp sims, then it might be worth getting something a bit better.
Wilkinson makes decent single coil mics for cheap at least. They would be a good upgrade for some started guitar for example, but stock mics on more expensive guitars might be as good. But it might be worth upgrading the whole guitar if its some cheapo thing that also has very bad mics.
I’m trying to get the best amp sims. Right now m using th-u and rhino aren’t those among the best? Or do you think there is better?? I’m opposed to using cheap amp sims. I want the best. I also have JamUp pro but I don’t think it’s par but that’s my experience anyway or are there better?.
Only swap out pickups if there is something wrong with what you have.
Buy a different guitar if you are not happy with the one you have.
You have good amp sims now.
What kind of guitar do you have?
@jdolecek49 You should just focus on using what you have and start making some music. There is no “best” amp sim….. ”best” is going to different for everyone.
I vaguely remember in another thread that you liked NIN (I think it was regarding vocals, not guitar) but anyway, those “classic” guitar tones on the earlier stuff weren’t made with the “best”, they were made with a shitty Zoom multi-FX box. At the end of the day it’s all about the song. A great song is a great song and the “best” or “worst” amp sim is not going to change that.
Tone hunting is so much easier than song writing or … shudder 😬 … practicing though!
😂 so true
The sims you have are top tier. I would focus on getting tones you like with them with the guitar you have unless the guitar you have is something that doesn't sound good to you.
edit: I wrote something about why asking same things again and again, maybe my choice of words was a bit too strong. Anyway I see moderation had taken place. I have cleaned up my message.
Dean vendetta
Will do, and everyone I apologize if I have asked the same question anyway. Thank you everyone who has helped me out. I do want to try the nembrini sims
Ok so what’s bothering you about the sound? Has it been set up properly to play nice?
Have fun!
It is great when you finally get something that feels right. It took me about 20 years to finally be happy with tone on anything but a tube amp. I finally there this year though with a couple of the Nembrini amps. I’ve made up my mind to stop looking.
So keep it up! Maybe you’ll find your tone in a lot less time. Maybe as few as 10 or 15 years if you work hard at it. 😂✌️
I would definitely get new pickups for a Dean guitar. They’re very much entry level guitars, and I have never played one with anything but poor quality pickups.
If early NIN is kinda what you’re after, both those amp sims should do you perfectly. The trouble with those tones though is that (as mentioned above) there were plenty of fx used and also many layers of guitar and sometimes synth.
Closest I’ve got is using the Shaper app (a gritty bitcrusher and more) into Nembrini’s Cali Dual. I remember reading his vocal distortion was from overdriving the desk so I wouldn’t be surprised if he went directly into the desk with the guitar sometimes too.
Tl:dr - you’ve got the amps covered, guitar will probably be fine, experiment, go wild and enjoy the journey
Wait what happened to the question guy? He got himself banned?
Before anyone jumps on, the guy is dealing with brain damage (sustained in a car accident I believe he said) that has left him with impaired memory…a couple of people were pretty unkind to him (to put it mildly) and he gave them a piece of his mind with some colorful language that I guess crossed the line.
Oooh. I hope not. That would be pretty harsh IMO.
It looks like the post where he described what he is dealing with was deleted or edited. So, maybe the mod was unaware.
That’s a shame. I’m all in favor of asking questions. I was surprised how it bothered some people.
Yep. I jumped the gun on the moderation there; was distracted getting the little one to kinder, saw some strong language and hit the kill button. @espiegel123 filled me in on what I was missing, and there's a lot more to the story. I suspect said strong language by @jdolecek49 was eminently understandable
It might be my crappy Mackie cr4’s I think I’m going to upgrade to either better monitors or something like an alto speaker which would you go for???
What’s your budget?
I honestly don't want to see @jdolecek49 banned. He's a good guy who indeed suffered brain damage from a bad accident and needs to be taught music production from scratch. I admit I was a prick to him at first too until he PMed me about what he went through, but I apologised and made it right.
Jdolecek learns best through hands-on instruction, and if I lived near him, I'd actually visit him in person to teach him how to produce music, with the only "payment" being a good meal after teaching him, and maybe 10-15 quid for petrol. Since he lives over 1600 kms away, the best I can do is to produce a track in Gadget using only the stock gadgets (no IAPs) and send him the project file to dissect. That, and to craft some tutorial videos geared best towards his learning style.
So the best thing to do is to be kind as nobody knows what the other person is going through. That applies to myself too. I'm not known for my patience, but goodness knows I'm learning all the time to be a better person.
That said, I know diddlysquat about guitar amps and monitors as I do everything through my Beats headphones. 😅 So I'll let everyone else take it from here. Cheers mates.
