No more need for class compliancy on GB?

At 1:22… Does this mean that I can play my
iPad in via usb to my non-class compliant keyboard and it will work?

Non-class compliant devices need custom drivers. I think the question is, whether the keyboard’s manufacturer will make a driver for iOS.

  • Also, if there is a driver produced, I would expect that the keyboard will work with every app, not just GarageBand.

  • Drivers were always a headache in windows :# :s

Right, hardware compatibility is more about the hardware and iOS/iPadOS rather than individual apps.

Nope, never really was, even years ago when you had to switch IRQs, it was never really an issue.

I wish that was true. Totally depends on the manufacturer.
Even on MacOS, some older interfaces don't work anymore on current MacOS releases because the manufacturer has stopped updating drivers.

  • From what I understand, this only relates to DriverKit on iPadOS 16, which is only for M1 iPads.
Should enable Thunderbolt audio interfaces and the ability to easily port macOS drivers to iPad.
I have a Roland Jupiter Xm, and it provides 7 stereo audio channels to a Mac, with a driver. Would expect that Roland could easily provide the same for M1 iPads.
    More info available at: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/audiodriverkit

  • Driver kit could be great. It could enable things like Elektron Overbridge, or Audio Hijack.
