    @AlterEgo_UK

Yes, a new Denks and Klade themed album is in the works ;)

So I guess, I should say, "cool beans!" Can't wait to hear it !

  • I don't know what I can add that hasn't already been said. I listened to this several times last night, and heard something new each time. This is like a really good short story with two characters, and a great plot with lots of twists and turns. You and @LinearLineman knocked this one out of the park. Extremely well done!

BTW - @JanKun you have a great voice.

Thank you for listening ! This is the best comment I could receive because it reflects what I had in mind when writing the arrangement ! I wanted to create a story in a gigantic metropolis where the listener would become an observer of the life of its millions of citizens in a collection of small scenes. So I am glad this track stimulated your imagination in a similar fashion !

Forum First? A Collaboration with a Collabloration?

I DM’ed @JanKun asking if he might change the panning on his original Staffpad mix and he responded by asking me if I could make the changes request myself… so he sent me the files with the piano as a wave file and the Staffpad score.

I don’t own the same Staffpad library for Percussion and Brass that he used but change the parts to from Berlin products to Cinesamples (which has more sales events but is considered the 2nd class product).

So, here is a mix with the mallet instruments panned closer to the piano as if this is a Concerto for Piano and Mallet Percussion:

I prefer the track with the percussion in the introduction as well. It is also good to have these more in the center, closer to the piano. Now purely in terms of sounds and for this piece, I think I prefer The Berlin percussion sound over the cineperc, but it might as well because my ears got used to the library I was using. But I think your idea works great, and if we release the track on a collaboration album with @LinearLineman I would personally be in favour of a mix very close to the one you made.

  • I guess I need to put the Berlin libraries on my shopping list. Hopefully during another sales event to save $60 on the 2 I don’t own yet. At $99 each I’ll probably wait.

  • @McD, I agree with Jankun. The Berlin library sounds more natural to me. As to the mallets at the start, I yield to Jankun’s preferences.

  • If you never do the A-B comparison you never detect the difference. Both I’m sure are better percussion collections than anything I can get in a AUv3 product: 50+ instruments. I tried to build an iSymphonic percussion collection and spent more money for very substandard samples and really weird coverage. For super cheap the free orchestral SF2 collections are the way to go like the one that is available to all AudioLayer customers.

Hmmm. It was not just the percussion that I preferred. It was all the instruments. Your version sounded brash to me. Maybe it’s something else?

It’s mixed pretty hot but it sounds amazing in my car and your piano lines are pure fire. You were really on that day. Probably my favorite improv of yours. I’m so glad @jankun decided to add more ideas to it beyond what you can do in Cubasis to expand on your playing.

@McD, and here I thought Glistener was your favorite. I hope I can do another as good one day. I can remember playing it at the seashore in Turkey. No big whoop. Just reeled it off. The surprising thing was that I had saved the midi.

Yes. Metropolis is something I listen to a lot now. I did suggest to @JanKun that he ask you for Glistener too if he’s going to
Collab on an album. He’s got a lot of ideas and really varied interests… he plays guitar and writes songs too.

I just listened to Glistener, and it is indeed a very beautiful piece. Not sure if I could bring anything interesting, but if there is a MIDI session for it, I could give it a try !

I suspect Make has archived all his Cubasis sessions. It would likely be Cubasis 2 but 3 imports those files too I think. I think he's in a phase where he's re-imagining his Cubasis
archive armed with new instrument app choices and an improved process for mastering, etc.

  • Just getting around to this amazing collaboration. I hope there will be more in the future. A wonderful marriage of styles.

Thank you for listening and for the kind words. There are definitely more on the way !

  • Absolutely fantastic on lots of levels…
I can imagine this as a new piece at the Proms or listening to a review of it on Radio 3 and thinking ‘I must listen to more works by these two!’

Yes. It has that effect on me as a listener.
