Song Of The Month Club - October 2022
What is the Song of the Month Club?
It's a place where musicians come to give and receive feedback on their work. Anyone is welcome, whatever their level of ability.
The spirit of the club is to contribute: if you submit a song for others to comment on, you should also have the courtesy to listen to everyone else's contributions and give as much feedback as possible. Posting a track and not listening and commenting on others is not cool.
The purpose of feedback is to be honest. Essentially you should give your truthful impressions of the song, whether good or bad. Negative feedback, if done in the right spirit and with courtesy, can be the most useful and can help the artist to grow and improve and correct their mistakes.
All submissions are welcome, don't hesitate if you want to contribute. We like all kinds of music and we are particularly fond of vocals (but of course we still love a great instrumental). If you are thinking of experimenting with vocals this is a good place to get started.
We ask that you only post one song per month in this thread - if you're lucky enough to be able to produce more, then please just submit your strongest material
And finally, iOS is not a requirement for posting here. If you've recorded your song using nothing but a ukulele and a Fostex 4 track, that's fine.

My entry for the month, lyrics in the spoiler:
You made me look into the void
Told me I was paranoid
And then you looked me in the eye
And you saw through my alibi
What I think the things I say
Well you found out to your dismay
Things I never told you
After all these years
Thoughts that only I knew
My secrets and my fears
And I don’t know
Why I get so low
I’m paralysed with fear
We make it in the make-believe
We use kind words when we deceive
But build your life on shifting sand
And you will sink right where you stand
What I think the things I say
Well you found out to your dismay
Things I never told you
After all these years
Thoughts that only I knew
My secrets and my fears
And I don’t know
Why I get so low
I’m paralysed with fear
Secrets and lies destroy you
Secrets and lies that throw you
Secrets that you don’t know
So much was left unspoken
So many things seem broken
And so little left to show
Secrets and lies still hidden
Too shy once you’ve been bitten
So much that you don’t know
A CAAt Claw's song this month
https://soundcloud.com/caat-claw/kitusai-caat-claw-cyrcles
This is a music track that I improvised on two MIDI keyboards connected to an iPad.
I used Bome Network software to send the iPad's MIDI notes to Bitwig Studio running on a desktop PC. There the MIDI was routed to Omnisphere, Lumina, and Alchemy for the singing voices. I used ZebraHZ and Lunaris for the background instruments.
After bringing the audio recording into Vegas Pro, I applied the Lurssen Mastering Console plug-in to the audio mix.
It's titled Alignment.
The chorus on this song was refreshingly strong and unexpected and freaking good! I wish the drums had a little more humph (in the spirit of saying something negative as well, and trying real hard to think of something).
Damn, gut wrenching emotional melody! The transition and end was so…. Perfect?
Also in order to say something other than praises, I wish it had a little more fatness in some places.
Thanks for listening and for the feedback - much appreciated
This is my track for this month. Its been a struggle to finish something, and nothing I make seems good to my ears right now. Ups and downs.
Great to hear a ukulele for change, and the synths and guitars that come in for the second half really change the mood in a delightful way. The first half of the track is pretty straightforward, but the second half feels a lot more musical and intricate, and really gives the song a lift.
The vocal synth pads are very beautiful, and the track is nicely relaxing and meditative.
The piano is very lively and interesting and breathes a lot of life into the music. The soft beat drives everything along nicely and the understated bassline really pins the groove down.
I really like the variety in the piano melodies, the way they keep changing and evolving is really engaging.
ohh Lots of U2 feeling in the intro and the bridge part, I like it, the vocals fits the text of the song perfect, ending section after 3 min mark is my favourite part, a bit darker feeling, 👍 , nice
you have some late 1960s feeling in this one, great production, your music is art, interesting and perfectly put togheter
medative track, nice sounds and you made it float slowly forward
Thanks for the feedback - hope you're all set for next month!
👍 yep, but its been a struggle this time
@richardyot Immediate take-off, very dynamic. A music for live scene in the open air. Excellent "Tommy" style chorus around 3'. Your singing seemed to me more assured than usual. The saturated guitar towards the end is also great. Great vintage!
@DavidEnglish Thanks for the sophisticated studio recipe with your entry! This is a beautiful, very orchestral and soaring piece.
@martinsa82 The shuffle-vinyl rhythm carries a very beautiful piece of lyrical piano. Your "down" is much more "up" than many "up" ;-)
@richardyot
A solid rock and roll feel. I especially like the electric guitar and whatever echo effects that you’ve added to the guitar. This heart-felt, high-energy song is my favorite from you (so far).
@Kitusai
Moody and lyrical. I especially like the section near the end where the singing voice, guitar, and vocoder-type sound all blend together into what feels like a single musical instrument. Dreamlike and captivating.
@martinsa82
A flowing piano with excursions into adjacent musical territories. A solid bass beat provides a firm foundation for the melodic constructs. It’s a very polished production, as well.
