Dropped you both a few £. Your videos are what got me started in iOS music and this hobby has kept my mind busy during the last couple of challenging years for the world. I hope things improve for you soon.
Edit: Also, thanks @robosardine for pointing this video out as I would have probably missed it.
Another option to help out Doug and Jo would be to purchase some of their music on BandCamp. If we can’t help out Doug at this time it’s a poor do. This whole community owes him so much.
Yeah - was going to mention this as well. That way, you're helping Doug and Jo and getting some pretty good tunes as a reward...👍
Doug and Jo's music:

There's also this curiosity from 2017. Perhaps Doug @thesoundtestroom can let us know if he's still getting the proceeds from it?

There are also 25 albums of music from Doug Woods and myself on Bandcamp at:

Purchasing one or more of these albums is also a way to help Doug out. In such times, I send Doug my share of any sales as well as his share.
Thank you for all the help people have given to Doug and Jo so far. What an amazing community.

I definitely don’t get any proceeds from that benefit album, I only ever received one payment years ago, but I think the person who was running all that passed away after a long battle with cancer a long time ago, so I have no idea who gets the sales, if any, from that stuff.
Yeah, did that yesterday:
Will give it a rt 👍
Nope. I don't have that on the YT app on my phone. But it's ok as I do have the super chat things to drop into a live stream when Doug does the next one 👍
Yep, ditto.
A few years ago I put up a website page with Black Friday app sales, linked to Doug’s affiliate account for a few weeks, and I think that was quite effective. Unfortunately Apple closed the program the year after. Just wondering if there’s anything similar he could link into, via his YouTube following? I’m a bit out of touch these days with the affiliate stuff.
OK - ignore this one...

Doug is a universal iOS music treasure!
Are you logged in on YouTube?
Usually Doug‘s reviews were too long for me to view them to the end but he is a legend and pioneer. Donated.
Yep it's always logged in.
Maybe because my phone is still on iOS11.
Maybe the YT app needs updating.
But I have super stickers that work in the live chat streams, so it's fine.
Just sent a donation, hope things get better for Doug. Seems like a lovely guy.
I’m a bit pissed off that PayPal seems to charge a quite large fee for the transaction. I did a “family or friends” operation and it was a couple of € for service fee which I find excessive, specially I’m this case.
PayPal take the piss for sure
And yeah, I guess the super thanks feature will not be visible in some old versions
You can also help by getting a few preset packs for Moog Model D and Model 15 and Zeeon, total of hundreds of presets created by Doug - for £9
When a friend asks for help, you help 'em.

Thanks for all the wonderful videos. We're just paying back a small portion of what you've given us.
Was it set to pay from a credit card? In the u.s. if paying to friends:family from bank account or PayPal funds there is no charge but if funds are drawn from a credit card there is.
We're live right now celebrating:
I’m in the US, and they charged me a fee. Family and Friends. but I agree this doesn’t usually happen. It may have been due to different currency?
The charge in this case is $0.99 from the US from a bank account and $1.52 from a credit card. This could have to do with it involving currency exchange or because it's an international transaction, or possibly if the other end is listed as a business. I guess it could have to do with local country VAT or other fees as well.
I hadn't thought about the internationality of it all and the implications that might have.
Note also by the way that twitter allows you to pay people - absolutely no fee - in bitcoin.
To use that you simply click the icon on the bottom left in the picture below, assuming the account owner has enabled this feature.
Can you pay your council tax in crypto now?
I think it’s very moving that when Doug needed to ask for help, many people from the community showed support. That’s heart warming and beautiful. But, Doug shouldn’t have to ask. From my own experience doing YouTube stuff, it’s so rare that someone makes a donation through superchat or superthanks or PayPal.me or BandCamp or joins Patreon or buys some merch… mostly people just watch the content for free and it doesn’t occur to them to donate. I don’t think that’s people being selfish. I think that’s just the world now. We stream whatever we want whenever we want and there’s no cost. YouTube is only part of what I do to earn a living with music but I’ve got to tell you, if it weren’t for the Patreon payment this month, which is only about £47, I could not have paid the rent on time. Earning a living as a full time musician is tough, I literally never stop working. I’d do more YouTube if I could but it’s so hard to make money from and for Doug - that’s his income, just YouTube. So, I’m waffling… what I mean to say is, I hope this will make people more aware in future you know - watch some of Doug’s content, learn something from it - get some benefit from it, chat with the community - throw him a couple of quid, share the vid - like - subscribe - Patreon - buy a mug - buy a track - any of these things. Wouldn’t it be nice if he never had to ask again because the community stopped taking him for granted.
It hasn’t been viable for a long time now.
It’s not impossible. It’s just tough. Scary from month to month because you just never know how well it’s going to go. Like any kind of self employment I suppose.
Yeah. That is the takeaway from all this... As a long time lurker, I've benefited so much from Doug's demos. I'm going to be better about financially appreciating the people that give me the knowledge that helps me do this wonderful thing called music. Without Doug's videos, I wouldn't have gotten into ios production. And yknow what? I like that he doesn't give targeted 5min bullet point ppt presentations. It's just nice to hear a joyful musician share his enthusiasm. It's catching, and that's valuable in and of itself.
