Ableton AUv3 plugin support, will dev's support it?

Hi All,

Now that Ableton Live supports AUv3 plugins, do you think the dev's will support it?
I would not mind to pay more for plugins if it would get 'universal' support.

These are the ones that worked for me:
-Arturia iSEM
-Beepstreet Drambo
-Beepstreet Sunrizer
-Beepstreet Zeeon
-Koala sampler
-Koala Fx
-Animoog Z
-Model 15
-Model D
-Mela 2
-Fractal Bits

I could not download any other synths from the app store.
I really hope other devs will support au3v on the mac.

  • Branches Semi-Modular from Willow & Oak can be added to the list! On the MIDI side of things, there’s also ZOA and OODA from Ryan Robinson, and MIDI Tape Recorder from Geert Bevins. All three of these are native Mac versions and work on Intel machines as well as Apple Silicon.

For apps that aren’t verified to work on Mac but the developer has enabled download on an M1/M2 system, I’m seeing:

    • Atom 2
    • sEGments
    • EG Pulse
    • GlitchCore
    • Cykle
    • Spectrum Synthesizer Bundle
    • Peter Vogel CMI, Reason Take, and Reason Figure (not AUv3 but still noteworthy IMO)

Bear in mind the only apps I’ve personally tested in Ableton are the Moog ones. But I’m optimistic we’ll see more coming over!

  • I think this is a really interesting subject. I think that devs would only do this if they don't have desktop apps available/they were the same price otherwise it hurts people who would have no use for it. The only solutions I can see would be:

    1. Have some sort of in-app purchase to unlock if the AUv3 is run on desktop. Devs, is this possible?
    2. Devs have some sort of upgrade scheme where you can buy using your apple receipt to get a discount
    3. Wait until major DAWs come to iOS and all the devs put their prices up
  • Wait.... so how does this work anyway? Does this only work for macbooks? If I have a PC, I can just download the Auv3's from the appstore and just..... use them in Ableton??

Audio Units (v2 or v3) work exclusively on Apple devices, so no, unless I'm missing something. From what app store would you download them on a PC anyway?

  • AUs are Apple only, and won't ever be on PC. I prefer VSTs so I can switch between PC and Mac, but it's nice to have AUs that I use on iOS on Mac.

Honestly, though I prefer to keep the two environments separate.

  • Some developers are making the jump to iOS, and keeping their Mac/PC options like Unfiltered Audio. This is more likely the case, than the other way around. There are way more Mac/PC devs than iOS ones.

    Eg pulse did not work.
Would have been awesome, I would love a Groovebox kinda app on the computer.

I would love to see Yonac’s synth on macOS, I would uninstall some of my plugins if this happened.

I learned to bounce every midi clip to audio. This releases stress to be in control of every little note and can call that part done and move on. Also moving projects is a lot easier that way. Brought back the joy in making music again for me.

  • Remember that this only works on M1 macs . Not intel
