IceWorks Mersenne Update: Sustain: now you can make sounds like THIS!

IceWorks Mersenne Update: now you can make sounds like THIS! (GIVEAWAY: See Pinned YT Comment)

Giveaway details in the pinned YouTube comment (Ps: my Riffler giveaway vid from yesterday is still open)!

Mersenne is my go-to app for easily making beautiful bell sounds. The new update has added sustain to all the envelopes. This allows for a much wider sound palette. For example, in this shorts video I am using sustain on several envelopes including noise. I’m then using LFOH! (Link to my vids on this and other used apps are in the pinned YouTube comment) to turn the noise on and off - this kind of sound was not possible in the older versions of Mersenne. Polyphase is providing the midi. Gauss by Bram Bos / Hainbach is used with a 50% decay setting to create frippertronics style looping, Bleass Dragonfly is adding tremolo whose intensity is based on the envelopes of the sound source itself, FAC Medusa is providing upwards compression to emphasize some of the details in the quieter parts of the sonic spectrum, while Eventide Blackhole adds subtle reverb.

This is a short, so best viewed in portrait mode.

  • Forgot to mention - this preset was based on a tweak of @Spidericemidas wonderful free preset pack for Mersenne. Big up!

  • It sounds really great Gavin. Are you creating full tracks from all those snippets on your shorts? This one deserves it IMO.

  • I am not, haha - I prefer to just tinker, and making vids takes up enough time already. I will definitely get round to putting out an album or something at some point, but now my priority is more on growing the channel. Thanks though JF!

  • Nice to see PolyPhase again :) They should make it Audio Unit MIDI.

For sure he should, but I don't think he will. One instance is more than enough, it's just the lack of state saving in aum that bothers me - which reminds me, forgot to save this preset, damn!

  • Ooh. Nice update. I'll have to grab that one.
    That's a great sound! 👍

A great sound based on your already great preset! Maybe you'll make a new pack based on sustain? Tongue 😝

The thought had crossed my mind to revisit Mersenne after this update! 😅

  • Hehe - by the way, in case anyone is wondering, I did ask Satoshi why the sustains are simple on / off buttons rather than levels - he said it was for UI purposes 🤷‍♂️
