Problem with Synthscaper - fixed
This is one of my favourite synths, but for a while now I’ve been unable to load and use my own new samples.
‘Open in’ is no longer available via Audioshare, but I can copy audio samples to the general pasteboard, and then paste them into the Synthscaper file section.
I can see my samples in the Synthscaper file section, rename them, create a new ‘group’ folder, move them around etc., and they’re even visible in the Synthscaper section in Apple Files.
But when I try and create a new patch, none of the new files are showing up.
All the samples I added a while back are there, and can be selected, but anything new (and I’ve tried a few times over the last few months), aren’t available for selection. When I go back to the Files menu - there they are again.
Just wondering if anyone else is able to load and play their own samples? Otherwise I guess I’ll send a support request.
Comments
I suspect that the sample files used by the app are in private storage, not in the Synthscaper folder visible to the Files app. Normally, sharing would be the way to provide files to an app, but you say that no longer works. Does the app maybe have an Import option that can take files from the public folder to the internal storage?
Another trick that might work would be to zip a folder of your files. Then share the zip with the app, if it accepts a zip. That's a somewhat common technique used by apps that expect to import groups of files, like Decent Sampler.
Thanks for the reply Dave.
No, no import option from Files or Audioshare, it uses Dropbox, Paste, and via Open In, though that no longer works.
I’ll try your zip file suggestion, and see if that works.
.zip file didn’t work.
Synthscaper doesn’t appear in any app lists (including iOS Files) for the ‘Open in’ and ‘share’ options.
It hasn’t had an update for 3 years. I’m guessing it’s a bug, so I’ll message the dev.
Sorted: I didn't realise there was a short limit on the length of user samples (10 - 15 secs, though I've managed to load a little bit longer), so my bigger imported files were not being marked as samples.
Thanks to Igor for the quick support.
