Drambo inside AUM, - what am I doing wrong?

I know AUM very well and I know Drambo well as modular synth. Now I wanted to look at Drambo’s sequencer, but I realise that it is not running at all when inside AUM.

So, AUM receives an external midi clock and is running when told to run. Drambo is loaded inside AUM and reads the tempo correctly but will not run when AUM runs.
In Drambo settings it is set to receive clock. In Drambo’s metronome setting menu, Sync is set to Host. I have placed some notes in a pattern, but clearly Drambo is not running.
What could possibly be the case here?

Thanks!

  • @LarsDaniel I think you need to disable MIDI clock input in Drambo's settings, otherwise there's a conflict between host sync and MIDI clock sync.

Separately and probably irrelevant to your problem, but just in case: what do you mean by "AUM receives an external midi clock"? As far as I know AUM hasn't implemented this yet.

  • I just tested my older iPad: I just launch AUM and load Drambo inside. Press play on AUM and Drambo is running along as expected. But I just can not see why this does not work on my newer iPad.

How is AUM receiving external midi clock? It’s not supported yet afaik 🧐

If you’re using Ableton link, it should just work automatically, no need to change any midi setting in Drambo as it automatically follows the host clock when loaded as an auv3. Deselect the clock option on the midi in settings and it should work

Could you share a video or a screenshot of the settings in Drambo and AUM?

    Exactly. AUM can't do that.
If you have to rely on external MIDI clock, Drambo needs to be the host.

  • Also tested not having AUM being synced to anything, and still Drambo does not run inside. But Drambo does show the tempo correctly.

  • Oh, sorry, forgot to say that AUM is getting ableton link, not midi clock.

  • To simplify, we can take how AUM is synched away. If I don’t connect my iPad to anything, launch AUM, open Drambo on a track, I just can not get it to run.

@LarsDaniel did you check that clock input is disabled Drambo?

I have disabled Midi clock in Drambo settings.

  • Ah, problem solved. It was indeed the midi clock in the Drambo settings that need to be off.
    Thanks a bunch @Grandbear 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

BTW I know you all wondered about me saying that I sync AUM to midi clock, which off course is wrong. But I just sync Audiobus to midi clock and Audiobus generates Ableton link which AUM reads. It really works well. In fact so flawlessly that I forget about it, which is why I did the mistake of saying that AUM was synced to midi clock. 🤷🏼‍♂️😁

Aah yeah, that makes sense, I remember using the same solution a few years ago, it really did work pretty well
