Mersenne Primes

I was thinking about prime numbers the other day.
What... who would do that?

  • Sounds like you've taken the mathematic phenomenon as an inspiration!
Each of your tracks is worth a listen, always something new and surprising

  • Thank you very much! I was always a 'math guy' in high school. I was tall for my age and the coaches wanted me to play basketball. I loved the game but was never very good at it. The nice thing about music is that age is not an issue. Have a great weekend, my friend!

  • This is a really good one. Like the voices especially. @rs2000 is right on. Great variety in your tracks.
    Where are the albums?

  • @LinearLineman Thank you so much, Mike. I truly appreciate that coming from someone that I respect and admire. I would do albums, but I don't think many normal people have the patience to sit through one. I prefer to do little songs with a little picture to go along with it. Maybe one day, when I'm famous, I'll do an album. I will save this graphic for that day.

I have mentioned you to my wife several times. She says 'Mike seems like a really nice guy. It would be nice to do dinner. Too bad he lives so far away'. Do you like Nashville?

BTW - check out my silly dance song!

  • @Paulieworld, I live in Savannah, so not very far. We may, indeed, meet one day. I have intentions to meet a few of the compadres here… so, maybe in a year or so if the invite is still available.

There are certain charms to making an album (as I’m about to post my 59th plus five actual cds). …
And it sure isn’t the sales or even the listens…. Which are mostly non existent, tho @GeoTony does me the honor of listening to most of them.

For me it’s creative fun to put them in order as effectively as possible, to design the cover, and to organize the best tracks in an archival way. Listening to nine tracks that way creates a different experience for me. SoundCloud is limited… if you want to find a track from two or three years ago you search and it appears out of context. With my albums on BandCamp I can get an immediate snapshot of where I was at at a particular time. It also provides me with a sense of completion, especially when I was doing themed albums based on synths, planets, elements, philosophers, women, etc. Knowing I needed to complete nine tracks to satisfy the thematic challenge really goosed the productivity.

I realize albums are not mainstream popular, but neither is my music. I do it for my own sense of artistic achievement. So I encourage you to think about it. Especially since some people here would definitely invest the time in listening to an album from PaulieWorld..

I like this … its capriciousness reminds me of the capriciousness of the primes, as they continue to evade our attempts to understand them fully.

I was discussing prime numbers with my 7 year old niece a while ago. I explained what they were and asked her to tell me a few. She thought for a while and said... 1, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13. At which point I said 'Very good!. She paused for a few seconds and said... 'There's a bunch more'. We think she may be a genius. She also writes brilliant poetry.

Thank you for listening and commenting.

Smart kid! Sounds like she'll go far! She might enjoy the Youtube channel Numberphile ... quite a lot in there about games, puzzles, and things which are quite accessible, as well as more advanced stuff I don't really have a clue about!

You are very prolific, and I love it.
Age also is not a factor in your creativity.
    Keep making great music, P!!!
This has a bit of the orient as well.
    Lovely!!!

  • Good stuff Paulie, a bit of an Irish trad sound to that violin.

Anyone who likes maths and music will enjoy Stria synth, I reckon, BTW 🤓

I am blessed to have a few folks that will take time to listen to my ramblings. I am sorry that I don't have enough time to listen to everybody on this forum. I enjoy commenting on the creations of other members. I know that it makes them feel as good as I do when I get a nice response like this. Take care.

Thank you so much. I hadn't really thought about the Irish connection until you mentioned it. My mother was 100% Irish and I grew up with Ceili music constantly in the background. I miss it and may have subconsciously channeled Mom in this one.

I always liked math and ended up in a job that uses it every day. Unfortunately, it's all about 'story problems' and each one has a needless complication. I just looked at Stria. I see that it appears to be a granular synth. It also appears that all of it's ratings are very high, and it's only 8 bucks. I'll listen to it tonight. Thanks for the recommendation.

  • The violins a definitely a standout in this track. A wonderful musical journey once again.

  • Not got round to listening to this yet… scheduled for the 30th at 3pm 😊 but just found this which is relevant…

Thanks Mac. I wish I could remember how I did them!

This looks like it will be fascinating. I will give this a listen tonight... at 5:45 precisely. Thanks!

  • @Gavinski Are you the same person that does the tutorials? If so, your work has been extremely helpful to me. You are very good at teaching. Thank you for your efforts. They are much appreciated!

I should probably mention that I'm not a math wizard of any sort. I made it through calculus then decided to study some things that would make me a little money. I actually once tried to use calculus to determine production rates for offset printing presses based on a few known unknowns. One of my co-workers told me I was just engaging in mental masturbation, so I gave up on it.

Although this article is a bit over my head, I liked how the patterns begin to develop over the square spiral. Wouldn't it be a trip if you were to keep generating this structure until it was visible from outer space... and it was the face of Elvis.

  • Ha… completely by chance I think I more or let hit my schedule (allowing for UK clocks going back 🕰)… glad I listened… great track, loved the violins and the infectious beat. I’ve tried doing tracks in the past based on the Fibonacci sequence but not had great success 😢

Fibonacci. That would be a really long track!
