Looks like Korg has a sale until Oct 31st

Not sure if it's just for the new General 128 expansion in Module, on all Module IAPs, or on Gadget too.

Got the new 128 expansion, and I'm already writing a new song. 😅

It is just the intro price for the "GENERAL 128" expansion sound library.

  • All Module expansions all on sale https://www.korg.com/us/news/2022/1020/

I think G128 is the first pack I’m not buying. Compared it to Marseille gadget, a lot of the sounds have the exact same sample source.

I did wonder if they had reused some of the presets from other gadgets, thanks for confirming.

I've noticed that too. Definitely not useful if Gadget is your main music creation environment, but very useful for Nanostudio 2 which is what I'm currently using to build my album with! I don't have to render audio from Marseille to be triggered with Slate in NS2. 😅 I can just use Module directly in NS2 instead.

  • I remember my Korg 05R/W had a General Midi mode, so I had always assumed the Korg M1 had that too, but it doesn't – it predates GM. Apart from the few esoteric early-90s computer game noises, it's possible to arrange a set of M1 sounds that do the same job, but it wouldn't be 16 voice multitimbral, like any proper GM module is.

How are you liking NS2? I’ve yet to try it. I generally stick to GB, CB3, and more recently Zenbeats.

  • I noticed the desktop Triton and Triton Extreme plugins have a few GM modes. I wonder if this new pack was lifted from one of those. I’ll have to try and remember to do a comparison before my trial expires.

True, when used in Module (standalone or AUv3) it’s a different story.

Let us know if you do.

Still hoping for full Triton for iOS.

I'm loving NS2, despite lacking audio tracks. I've made some vocal productions in it with the help of CB3 for recording and tuning of said vocals. 🙂

That, and I'm a completionist in the worst way, lol.

I have just run through the GM set of sounds with the Triton desktop plugin and to my ears they are exactly the same. In a strange way it makes the IAP marginally more appealing since I know that this set of sounds is interoperable between iOS and desktop. I agree though, it would be better to get the full Triton instead of being sold it piecemeal.

  • @jwmmakerofmusic
Out of curiosity, what is the size for General 128?

Yes, G128 and the “Triton Best” IAP in Module have some of the same too.

  • To sell the same sounds twice is a great marketing idea :D

If only. I've been waiting for iTriton, but neither am I holding my breath, lol.

I think around 500mb or less if I remember correctly? 🤣

Yeah that's ridiculous to be honest. There's no need to repeat sounds between IAPs, lol. Now if it's repeat sounds from Marseille, that's different, because Module is an AUv3 that can be used in other hosts, where Marseille is not.

I'm boycotting Korg with their boring ass preset pack business strategy. Please bring us the great synths out from Gadget into more advanced environments, just stop being weird! Give stuff the AU treatment and the people will throw money at you, Korg. You better be listening 😂

Oh that's the problem though. Korg never listens and doesn't really give a shit. 🤣 I'd toss money at them for an AUv3 functionality IAP in each synth app of theirs and buy "Gadget AUv3s". But oh no, Korg just wants to sell presets for Module, and like a dummy, I always buy them. 😂

  • Yeah it would be nice to see some type of Gadget update
I haven’t bought a sample pack in a while now, I’m holding out unless Gadget gets some more love…beeen a while.

The good news is Gadget is kept up-to-date with maintenance updates to keep it running smooth. The bad news is that's all there is to it really. But I like Gadget for what it is already. I just wish something new and exciting would be added other than preset packs for Module.

  • An iMS-20, ARP Odyssy, polysix auv3/standalone update and I will consider buying Korg apps again. They seriously are not realizing what they already have. Anything loaded in gadget simply does not sound so great. Especially after you spend some time with the synths mentioned above in any host.

They made Electribe Wave and Module AUv3, they know how much/little money that made them. I hope it’s enough to see more stuff in the future.

Gadget does not downgrade the sound, it’s identical to the standalone.
