Chord progression Database by Genre App

Is there an app that has most popular chord progressions (optionally with midi out/auv3)? I’m interested in House, Future Bass, Pop, Jazz genres.

  • The user and all related content has been deleted.
  • Do they have databases of complete progressions by genre?

  • Helium - piano roll has a tons of built in midi chord progressions, built into the media bay.

Piano Motifs - with Au IAP you can generate or program them in

Beatly Pro - not Au but midi out, generative

Chordbot - midi export not Au. Some built in, and can also generate

Scaler 2 - probably your best bet

  • You can also find free midi packs all over, some with a lot of progressions inside, then use something like helium, atom 2, or LK so you can easily load them in, and send it out.

  • Odesi Chords but midi export only

Not an app but a website, here you can find a lot of info

    https://www.hooktheory.com/theorytab/common-chord-progressions

    https://www.hooktheory.com/theorytab

They do have two apps (Hooktheory 1 and 2) but these are mainly for learning about chord progressions (pretty good apps! I learned a lot with these).

And I have this app, Jazz300, that has a lot of (Jazz) chord progressions

    https://apps.apple.com/gb/app/jazz300-ultimate-play-along/id1567821393

And Helium has indeed some preset chord progressions.

  • Thank you all for your suggestions. Lots of the apps are iPad exclusive. No app for searching through progressions on the go on iPhone?

I just came across your post about an app for chord progressions in different genres, and I totally get the struggle of finding the right resources for your music. I found one website which might be helpful. They have a comprehensive chord progression database organized by genre, including popular ones like House, Future Bass, Pop, and Jazz. It's a handy resource to explore different chord progressions and even has options for MIDI output and AUV3 integration if that's something you're looking for. Check it out at cosource.com.au and see if it suits your needs.

  • Chordjam has a database od Chords as well

Yep. Comment was made 1 minute after creating account yet they somehow “stumbled” upon it. And the only comment they’ve made in the 12 hours since.

All these bot / marketing things always seem to start with someone unearthing am old thread, saying it's interesting, then either trying to mine people's ideas on it or trying to sell them something

  • Once the AI bots carry on the conversation without us I guess we’ll just read bot posts? Where is this going? Are music AI bots bored with creating music or just not feeling the muse and like us are procrastinating by hanging out on the AB forum?

Yep you can always tell by the language but it does take an attentive eye. Someone not as keen to new technology could be very easily fooled by this, which is scary when you think of scammers.

We will enter the matrix without even knowing. How long till the first AI catfish?

  • I’m just hoping AI bots will be able to tell us which is better - PC or Mac.

The bots trained by PC people will tell you PC and the bots trained by Mac people will tell you Mac.

Prog machine has a list of progressions by type though not genre. The explanations sometimes mention broad genres.

    https://apps.apple.com/us/app/the-prog-machine-chord-progressions/id1211139207

I found that an online search sometimes returns better or more specific results as some people have already done the analysis for more popular genres.

  • Just a side note, I am "reading" this book:

    https://www.amazon.com/Chord-Progressions-Songwriters-Richard-Scott/dp/0595263844

The book explains popular progressions, and list songs (from the past, mostly) that use these. It is all transposed to the C scale, and the author wants you to play every variation yourself, in different keys. The book has 500 page so this will keep me busy for a while.

When it comes to the OT question, in my opinion you ask for a really wide scope, jazz progressions are very different and more complex than house progressions (I think these are more about texture and are much more static). Pop can be very simple and also very complex, look at some Taylor Swift songs, lots of chords in a row. I am not sure an app that has it all will help you any further.
