Cubasis 3 automation. Simple on/off for AU fx

Just wanted to check that I'm not missing something.
All I want to do automate some AU fx switching on and off at certain points in a song. I hoped that I could record on/offs (and edit later) by hitting the relevant button under insert effects on the left hand side. Didn't work.
Next I tried it on the effect 'page' itself, hoping that highlighting the W button would make the on/off record. Nope.

Is the only way to do it by automating the wet/dry knob on the effect itself? If so I think that's a real faf and a missed opportunity in Cubasis.

Bump edit to ask an expert :) @LFS am I right in thinking none of the on/off buttons are automatable?
Certainly for my work flow this would be awesome.

    Old post, needs some fb.
Agree, I have been looking for the same, but don't think the on/off switch is automatable.
The dry/wet mix knob if there is any depending on the auv could work?
