MIDI Keyboard Problem with GarageBand

So I now have received theLaunchkey mini Mk3
I connected it with my USB adapter and it works meaning the lights go on and when I press the keys or the pads GarageBand responds
But when I press the play or record button or any other button or knob on the keyboard except octaves down and up nothing happens
I tried to find an option where I can select the Launchkey as my keyboard and map certain buttons to certain functions but I cannot find it
I also already have the Launchpad app and try to find something in the settings but I couldn’t find anything as well
Does that mean that I can only use the keys and the pads on my iPad with no possibility to use the buttons and knobs ?
Or is there an app I can use to do that or an option I have overlooked in GarageBand?

  • Garageband has no transport control midi mapping, unfortunately.

Cubasis, Loopy Pro, AUM, etc. Also you can use bluetooth keyboard to control GB with shortcuts. https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/47753/is-there-a-way-to-control-garage-band-transport-controls-via-a-controller

  • Thanks for the info I will wait then until I can afford Cubasis 3
Lucky I have found some synth apps already have the knobs assigned to certain effects automatically so I don’t have to change anything still no transport control but that’s something

Roli Loop blocks can make Garageband start, stop, record etc. So I’d guess there’s probably a way you can change your controllers transport mapping to make it work.

GarageBand transport controls responds to MMC (SysEx midi commands). Of course, there are some controllers that can be configured to send them to GB. Launchkey configuration utility, as I remember, allows only CC mapping change. It’s interesting, if any midi routing/processing app can be used for this.

You can do this with StreamByter, loaded in Audiobus or AUM, provided GarageBand can be made to see the port carrying the messages.
