  • @SevenSystems Now that I'm using xequence more, I sometimes wish for the keyboard to be displayed in split view on the bottom of the screen (like AUM does) rather than full screen. My usecase is being able to record notes while seeing the project timeline or a specific clip.

Besides using an external keyboard or some app like KB-1 keyboard in slideover, I couldn't think of any other solution to this problem.

Do you exclusively use an external keyboard? Or do you record without seeing the timeline?

    Thank you!

I agree that a split view would be useful for iPad... the main reason it isn't there is that Xequence was originally an iPhone-only app. It's certainly doable but I can't promise it'll be added.

I mostly record using the internal keyboard without seeing the timeline. Most of the time I set a loop region prior to noodling on the keyboard screen so that I have predictable timeline and transport button behavior. I then don't really "need" to see the timeline.

But I'm open to suggestions for improvement for working without split view.

I think a lot of music styles, especially in electronic music, work well with loops and takes.

I produce ambient and cinematic music where the tempo is less important than the "breathing" or silence between notes. A visual clue of what's about to happen is thus very useful for me. Loops won't work this way.

It is somehow similar to when you play real instruments with someone and you look at each other when transitions happen 😊

The only way I see to improve this without splitting the screen would be to be able to host AUv3v midi effects like Xequence AU keys in a floating window but this is way much more difficult to do!! 😅

Yes, I understand. What might be easier to implement than an actual split-screen view would be an "overview" at the top of the keyboard screen, which just shows the arrangement "squeezed" into thin lines, without any means to actually interact with the clips. That would probably help already?

    Yes that's definitely a bigger undertaking :)

I actually thought of that too! Yes, that would be great and enough to see upcoming events 👍
