Why I want Jakob to review Note…

… because he’s a nice guy and I like his videos and the accent he learned to use in them.

  • It would be a real twist if the accent actually did turned out to be fake. 😄 He'd have to first learn perfect English as a Swede, and then (for fun and profit, presumably) learn to fake a Swedish accent. That's dedication.

  • He's already said here he adopted a different accent when learning English just because he thought it sounded cool (or something along those lines).

  • Ah okay, had no idea, thought you were joking for sure. I guess the twist is (sort of) true then, even better.

Very enjoyable and useful videos, he's influenced my decisions more than once, including to buy the Korg nanoKey Studio, always for the better.

  • Yeah - Jakob's English accent has changed a lot - it is much more British English in the early vids, now it is more neutral. Imo it is wise for non-native speakers to adopt neutral accents, as local or regional or class-related accents come with so much baggage it can sound weird when used by someone who hasn't actually been through that background or grown up in that place. But yes, I enjoy Jakob's accent and his excellent command of the language, sense of humour etc 🔥

  • For someone who likes Samplr so much, I think he'd really dig Note.

  • I think speak whatever accent you want .
    it’s all good !!

He should reverse his argument and make a video labeled “Forget AUv3… Learn to Love Stems”. Ableton supports stems. What is a loop or a beat? It’s a fixed length stem… Mind blown. Trade them with friends or even casual acquaintances.

@jakoB_haQ has learned the marketing lesson of a buzz based title.

Exactly. Was looking for this post.
I get everyone looks at the future and sees AUv3 but I wonder what will happen if Apple decides to release AUv4 that is designed to work for Mac and iOS devices. Will all the AUv3 apps become obsolete?

They would do what they have done with IAA apps:

Announce that the API’s are deprecated and will not be supported in 5 years
Let developers transition to AUv4 (potentially updating existing AUv3 apps over a few years or selling new versions)
What the user base become less and less interested in the older versions like we are with most IAA apps right now

It’s something desktop users have experienced many times over the PC era and it generates a ton of press, anxiety, and vendor bashing but still most new waves are bigger and better than the older versions. But just moving a button is a request for anger.

It’s more likely that Apple will create support for IOS AUc3 on Macs than quickly announce deprecated API’s unless there’s some major technician benefit for setting off a new wave of changes.

As it is, developers can decide to support the Mac OS instance by dealing with the mouse vs touch issues in their user interfaces. It looks like they can post a disclaimer that you can try it bit I’m not promising to fix it for small issues.

I picked up an M1 Mac and the ecosystem of IOS apps is so small it’s like playing with standalone apps on the Mac: Koala, Audiolayer

AUv3 is for Mac and iOS devices.

Did Apple actually give a time period of "5 years" or was it just open ended?

No time period given. It is anyone’s guess. Deprecated APIs can survive for many years before being pulled.

Sorry. Bad habit. I was trained by a vendor to see software deprecation as a 5 year commitment due to
Government contract language. Of course, the government could demand support well beyond that and get it
Because failure to support software in operation could result in no new sales.

I’m sure Apple has some of those contracts too but they don’t apply to general users.

Apple forces the user base forward by making version rolls backs impossible (or extremely difficult).
I just hit that upgrade button and sometimes regret it.

I recently decided to look at re-upping some software I purchased for Mac 5 years ago and damn it won’t run
And they do offer a slight discount to re-purchase the current version. We forget hope good we have it on IOS to protect
Our investment over time. Worst case you need to hang on to some older iPad or iPhone to keep using some apps.
Rarely does an app actually become unusable and usually because it was a tiny outfit that quit chasing income or got purchased and integrated into some software Borg.

Fwiw, there have been deprecated APIs in Apple-land that continued to be supported for a decade or more. There have even been a couple of times where Apple announced that a deprecated technology was ending life in a current OS version only to backtrack and extend the API’s life for another version. And there have been cases where the transition was swift.

If he read his original thread he is probably staying of the AB forum.
