  • Thanks @johnfromberkeley.

Would anyone care to share what kind of results they've gotten using this with virtual instruments? Also, would the JamUp Pro XT base be a nice complement to the ToneStack base or would it be redundant?

I'm trying to do my homework, but so far I've been unable to find a list of what's in the base other than: "JamUp XT comes with 1 amp and 6 effects. JamUp Pro XT adds fully 6 amps and 16 stomp-box and premium rack effects - including distortion, compression, tape delay, tremolo and spring reverb."

  • Favorite is tough for me but I think I get the most mileage out of (and voted for) the Effects Expansion pack. Honestly, hard to remember whats in which pack without opening the app (have the classic one too).

    For me, the Acoustic pack.

Between BIAS, Jamup Pro+Effects pack and ToneStack Motherload plus stand-alone effects such as the AUFX series and Holderness apps I felt I had just about all the amps and effects I would ever need, but the Acoustic pack really adds new capabilities and great sound.

The effects pack also has a lot to offer and is an almost essential addition within JamUp and maybe the Vintage effects pack too, but since many of these are in Tonestack as well now, I'll have to think about it and perhaps find some demo videos...

  • This is tough because some of those I've had for so long I just consider them to be "part of the app". But I voted for the Gurus amp add on - a little overpriced at $9.99 when I bought it, but at $4.99, I found them to be 3 very nicely balanced apps that cover the whole gain spectrum across the three and their various channels.

Vintage effects app pack was great too - literally by adding the Fulltone OCD clone alone, it gave me the OD pedal I felt was lacking from the whole app.

  • Any recommendations for non-guitarists who are looking for interesting effects?

  • How does this app integrate with Bias? I have Bias but haven't bought this one yet because of all the IAP's, where Bias doesn't have any.

  • @cian - I assume you mean from JamUp? ToneStack (from Yonac) would probably be the slightly better option, given the number of effects and how it allows you to remove amps from the chain. The base effects expansion pack for JamUp probably has some wahs, fuzzes, etc. that would work well with other instruments/synths, but I'm guessing here.

@Coloobar - The way it works is that when you are in BIAS, you click the little JamUp icon (I think) and there is an option to export the app to JamUp. Once the amp is JamUp, it works like any other JamUp app. In fact, I am pretty sure you can just try this with the free version, though the Pro version is all of $4.99 right now, which is the cheapest it will ever be.

The BIAS amps operating within JamUp are probably "better" than many of the JamUp amps, but many have noted that they don't sound as good as they do if you are running BIAS itself. Part of this is the absence of a nice room reverb effect in the BIAS app that you don't have in JamUp, but it could be stripped down in some other ways. However, JamUp running a BIAS amp seems to require less CPU than running that same amp within BIAS.

BIAS recently got a few IAP's, but they are simply packs of 6 new amps and a new preamp or other amp-building module for $9.99 (not on sale currently). Personally, I don't find them to be a great value proposition given that BIAS has tons of amp to start with, and infinitely more that you and other users design on the ToneCloud. But I'm sure sound great, if that's your thing. Check out here for some discussion on that:

@StormJH1 Thanks for the explanation. It sounds like Bias>Jam Up Pro from your description. Is there a listing of the different amps that come stock with the Pro version somewhere? I've looked but can't seem to find anything. After listening to some samples, I think I'm most interested in the Marshall Plexi amp which I think comes with the base "Pro" app. The Peavey 5150 amp sounds pretty good too, but I'm not sure what expansion pack that comes in.

  • The store section of JamUp Pro shows what amps and/or effects come with each pack.

  • If you go to the free jamup you'll see the pro upgrade, which I think lists what's in it. But, but jamup pro, not the upgrade, just easier later on. Bias amps do sound fuller than when imported to jamup, but still great and jamup is all the effects as well. At 4.99 for each, just get both , you won't regret them. Plus, they addressed us bassists, so I am a big fan of both apps and use them often. I just used the acoustic 360 model to "reamp" my DI track in the song I just mixed and it sounds great.

  • Wow, that kinda sucks that you have to install JamUp XT to see what is in Pro.

FWIW, I read in an older thread that you can "swipe the amp upwards and it will deactivate from the signal path" in JamUp.

  • @telecharge - Actually I believe you are right. I haven't had occasion to do that before. I do think that the effects chain is still slightly better implemented in ToneStack (limited to 7 objects in JamUp still, right?).

@Coloobar - If you're a big fan of Peavey amps, you probably know this already, but Agile AmpKit has the first-party licensing from Peavey and their Peavey models are actually quite excellent. In fact, the ValveKing is part of their base free amp and you can full use it with AudioBus, etc. - I know some people that carry the app only for that one.

I will say that now that I have BIAS and some other amps like Flying Haggis, it's pretty rare that I use the base "clean" amps from JamUp. I do feel that the Plexi in BIAS is markedly better than the JamUp iteration. Though neither is "bad".

Flying Haggis for $6.99 nails a vintagey clean tone or light crunch, even though they aren't purposefully modeling "Fender", "Vox", or Marshall. Until this last update, my one knock on JamUp was that their IAP's were largely focused on ultra-high gain amps. That's why I liked the Guru amps.

  • The $4.99 expansion sale is back on again, including the Bias expansions.
