How about recording a cover tune just to get things moving again? If the inspiration isn't there to change it up, focus on nailing the production technique in a song that has a particular air to it. It'll come back, I'm sure.
Here he comes, he's all dressed in black
Beat up shoes and a big straw hat
He's never early, he's always late
First thing you learn is you always gotta wait
(I'm waiting for my man)
Ha! Just covered that on ukulele last night @johnnyGoodyear
Broke on through to the other side! All it took was a friend with a plane and a shocking turn flying it. Lifting off again tomorrow at sunrise for a beach front flight. Its the most alive I've ever felt, and when I hit the ground the first time, it came pouring out of me again. I think what I needed to do was get up in death's face and laugh a little.
Oh that old thing.....sure Death as Muse, interesting subject right there. Ride it out.....
Great thread...
Personally I try and discover some new music to listen to (Spotify) that inspires me. Then I try and make something in a similar style. What I come up with never turns out the same as the piece of music i've discovered though - it's just a starting point to get me going.
I'd like to try flying a plane as an alternative method though .
Cut, delete, start again, something simple, but that youv'e never done. If it's hard work to do its going to be hard work to listen to,just my four pennies...
For me I've always had my longest periods of inspiration when I got a new music program or software instrument.
This has helped some people http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oblique_Strategies
There's a web version of the cards here. http://stoney.sb.org/eno/oblique.html
Try some new apps, don't think about it literally take it out of your mind and eventually something might spark.
Delete some apps and work on less - limit yourself. From limitation comes creativity - ever wondered why a lot if people say about a lot of bands 'earlier stuff' was better? It was probably because they were in their garage writing songs with just themselves and their amps and cheap drumkit and when bands get bigger, they get richer and have opportunities to go to big studios where possibilities are endless! This isn't always a good thing.
There are also a tonne of possibilities we are fortunate to have when creating ios music - a lot of the time I'm stuck on where to start and get writers block too. Limitations are key,
Or, force yourself to create x amount of minutes/ bars of song per day and don't do anything until it's done. Might be crappy if forced but at least it's something!! If you lack the serious amount of willpower required to do this, actually look at getting commissioned for an amateur video game or film so you actually have to do it! That'll get the juices going.
All easier said than done so good luck I hope you beat it!!!
