You've Got A Friend (ft. McD & JanKun)
Here's a rendition of the Carol King classic, You've Got A Friend.
Lead Vocals: @McD
Backing Vocals & Orchestration: @JanKun
Percussion: Finn (Garageband Percussionist)
Acoustic Guitar: @pbelgium
I feel honoured to have collaborated with these two again (and Finn) - they took a fairly standard guitar part, added their amazing vocals & music, and made it come to life. Thanks so much!
Enjoy.

Bravo guys, good art, good show
I can’t figure out @McD’s voice but I like it a lot. Is it the counter culture leaning toward Randy Newman? And it’s kind of western, too. All I know I is I like to listen to it. Good work, guys.
Oh man… I haven’t heard this yet but I can’t wait to get off work and check it out properly. Three of my favorite producers and artists doing a collab…. Ohh hell yeah!!!
Finn is a nice guy, but let's be honest, he always tries to steal the show 😄!
Hahaha he is overpowered!!
But wow, this song was incredible!!! Gj y’all!!!
I am a huge Carole King fan so had to hear this one. All the component parts are very good, but the orchestra overpowers the vocal.
Nice job, gentlemen. A classic - you had me singing along within the first few words.
To quote the man himself, "My voice sounds like I spent the day yelling." But, I agree with you @LinearLineman, I like to listen to it - the tone is strong but also comforting at the same time. Thanks for listening.

Hi @pbelgium @McD @JanKun ,
Lovely, lovely, simply lovely!!!
Everything on this production is perfect!~
This song is a personal fav, and you guys made it so very special!!!
Very enjoyable.
Great Collab Work!
Rene
I did multiple takes to fix timing problems while learning the song arrangement.
Each take my voice sounded more strained.
I was pretty glad that the orchestra comes in to provide distraction because the song is so damn long.
@jankun approaches adding orchestra the way the great Warner Brothers producer Van Dykes Parks worked with Brian Wilson on Smile. The orchestra makes this one special for me because the vocal is not great but it’s close to being in tune so I took that as a win and @pbelgium’s guitar parts are so solid. His “A Kiss from a Rose” is out there for someone with the range to do it justice. It’s beyond me with those falsetto lines that jump between vocal ranges.
Thanks for listening @Kewe_Esse @magnusovi @Wrlds2ndBstGeoshredr @Daveypoo @ReneAsologuitar, much appreciated.
Another great collaboration here on the Forum. So glad you all came together to make this.
Thanks for listening @MadeofWax, hopefully more to come.
Good job, a real team effort
I could swear your voice (@Mcd) has got even better since Time after Time 👍
Great song by a great songwriter / singer / pianist (I was trying to play Tapestry a couple of days ago… and failed) …
You three did this one justice… more please 🙏
Lovely lovely production and great artistry by all parts!
Thanks for listening @GeoTony - I think you are correct about @McD's vocals.
Thanks @richardyot @Krupa. I took on the task of mixing/mastering this piece, but can take no credit really, as I was heavily influenced and guided by the ears of @McD & @JanKun - definitely a team effort.
Don’t discount the effort it takes to fingerpick chordal accompaniement on guitar. It’s a highly refined technique akin to classical guitar style where each plucking finger is notated PIMA. Most that learn this style use Tab which provides fret positions for the left hand and no clues for the right but generally each finger gets a string unless it’s a fast scale run on a single string.
Many guitarists learn to pick and/or strum and avoid this complex approach to the instrument but it’s helpful to add motion and broken chords and sound more like a pianist in approach.
There are finger picking heros in almost every musical genre including Eddie Van Halen that popularized fast use of both hands on the fret board.
