Any IOS DAW with 'floating/dock REC button (or Midi mappable rec button)?

I use mostly NS2 and I really wish I could have a 'floating' Record button on top of the MIDI chord apps I use. Switching apps when you finally got that chord progression or that groove ready isn't the best in terms of flow :)

Is there a DAW that supports that?

An alternative would be to Midi map the Rec button (which NS2 doesn't seem to support).

  • The most recent addition to MultiTrackStudio is MIDI learn of transport controls:

You can also drag chords from apps like Suggester directly to the piano roll, e.g.

  • Thanks, I'll check MultiTrackStudio now :))

  • @MisplacedDevelopment wow it looks impressive. It's weird that I haven't heard of it before.
Also the fact that you can add a Midi effect to an instrument (don't think I can do this in Nanostudio2 unfortunately) means that it solves the need to have a Midi mappable transport, since you can both have transport buttons, Midi editor AND say ChordPolyPad in the same window. No app switching! Pretty great!
I'll check the ipadbeatmaking vids, looks like a great channel!

Drambo and Cubasis can both MIDI learn transport controls too.

Another option: iOS Accessibility Switch Control.
You can map MIDI messages (at least MIDI notes, as far as I remember) to any custom screen gesture which might be a tap on the REC button for example.

  • Good point @ehehehe.

@stelvio do the chord apps support AUv3? Then Switch Control would work inside NS2.

    Drambo

You can put drambo on a floating window and have access to the transport buttons on top of any app, I use it this way with SP Pro

  • @rs2000 yes! I use mostly ChordPolyPad and StepPoly... Not sure I understand the connection between AUv3 and Switch Control :/

  • Oh I see what you mean now, just read your previous comment. I'll look into this, no idea this existed! Thanks a lot!

Yeah it's quite hidden in the dark depths of iOS settings and it needs some patience to set up but it's a really nice problem solver for remote controlling screen gestures on any app.
Bluetooth remotes like some game controllers are also supported if they send compatible messages.

Long ago, I've written a detailed howto:

  • @rs2000 that's pretty deep! thx for sharing
