I use MIDI IDAM, would adding a Midi interface improve latency?
A bit of a noob question sorry, probably has a simple answer
I use MIDI IDAM to transmit MIDI from iPad to Ableton/MacBook, I use the lightning cable.
Would using a Midi interface improve Midi latency?
Comments
In general, adding hardware to a chain will increase latency.
I did some measurements that don't exactly answer this question, but may be useful nonetheless: https://forum.audiob.us/discussion/52287/does-anyone-have-numbers-for-bluetooth-vs-midi-idam-latency
Basically, as I measured it, iDAM latency is less than 1ms more than directly connecting to the MacBook with a MIDI-USB cable. If you're getting noticeable latency, it's more likely that it's coming from a plugin or the audio conversion, not MIDI latency.
