Jazz Drummer Lumbeat - Issue with Count

Hi All,

Using Jazz Drummer for live gigs. Have used the Count feature with success but an issue has developed since using Audio Bus 3 (AB3). The Count feature is wonky. Without regard to the time signature of the pattern, the Count feature will not accurately “count in.” Sometimes one beat, sometimes more. It’s random. Also, I can’t turn off the Count feature. The button dims, but it’s still active.

I start Jazz Drummer first, then start AB3. There is no midi control at the moment sending to Jazz Drummer.

Any ideas or advice much appreciated. Thanks for taking a moment to read my post.

Tim

Have deleted Jazz Drummer app and reinstalled. Issue seems fixed for now. Sometimes the old question, “Have you turned it off and back on again?” needs to be answered.

  • Yeah, believe it or not, installs get corrupted un IOS too! :D

  • Yes, sir, @Tones4Christ they sure do!

Next problem? From within AB3, how do I configure Lumbeat Jazz Drummer and Soft Drummer to play nice - as in, separate but equal. I think it’s somewhere in the network settings with the Lumbeat apps, right?

    What do you mean?

  • @espiegel123 I want to use Soft Drummer for certain tunes and Jazz Drummer for certain tunes. I have them both loaded in AB3. I guess I just mute the one I don’t need for a certain tune?

I am a neophyte here. Sorry for elementary questions.

  • Muting is probably easiest. There are ways to send start and stop commands to the individual apps but that is somewhat complicated.

  • @espiegel123 Thanks! I’ll leave “complicated” for another day, month, year…

  • Another count-in issue is if you link any lumbeat apps via ableton link you will see same problem

What problem do you have with them using link?

Link uses a constantly running clock. Pressing start starts at the beginning of the next measure. It isn’t like midi clock which is simply beat-aligned.

Even if I link apps I wish to hear all 4 beats of count-in but it will never happen just rundom beats. I wish Lumbeat fix it to start count-in in the beginning of the next measure during running clock

@espiegel123 Right now I have Ableton Link turned off because I think it’s unnecessary. Running two versions of Lumbeat, muting one until I need it for a style/pattern/etc. I find when I unmute the unused Lumbeat plugin, it’s already playing. I can stop it before I unmute it but it was inconvenient to have it banging away in a muted status. Will enabling Ableton Link help with this issue?

I’m learning, just not fast enough.

    Thanks!

Only in the sense that if you use link, you can turn off auto start. Muting won’t have an effect on starting and stopping them. You could set up midi mapping to mute and stop and unmute start.

@alesis Jazz Drummer was doing this on my system, too. I deleted the app and reinstalled it. That fixed the random count-in issue. I have no clue how the install became corrupted, but it did.

I will give it a go. Thank you @espiegel123 !

  • Should I link or instantiate my midi controller with the Lumbeat drummer apps? Right now I'm relying on AB3 to run them but whenever I start AB3 (after starting SoftDrummer and JazzDrummer outside AB3) the midi commands I've set up don't work. I have to fiddle around with the network settings inside the Lumbeat apps in order to get the midi commands from my controller to work.

Here's another way of understanding my question. On the midi tab of AB3 I have my organ connected to my organ app, same for Numa Player. I don't have the two drummer apps connected to the midi controller on the midi tab page of AB3. Should both Lumbeat apps also be connected to my controller?

    Thank you!

It sounds like you're connecting the controller directly to the Lumbeats apps via CoreMIDI. But the apps don't retain the configuration.

If Lumbeats "support" Audiobus, and Audiobus connects to them automatically, then they may automatically expect MIDI from Audiobus. If that is the case, then routing the controller to the apps in Audiobus might work. Give it a try. It would also let you insert a script or MIDI fx to only send the desired MIDI messages through to Lumbeats, which might prevent confusion.
