Screen Record from MAC or IPad Disney,Netflix, etc……. For legal use

Hi folks.
I have searched and tried many things…. To no avail. I want to be able to screen record or capture video from content from Disney Plus, Netflix etc….. this is all above ground. I watch hundreds of YouTubers have (fair use 15-20 second video) from all these platforms and I must be in dumb mode today as googling and trying differnt software does not work? How? 😁

Charlie.

  • It’s not legal if they explicitly forbid it.

  • The tell me how these YouTubers are doing it??? They show 15-20 second videos?? It’s straight from these?? These are High profile YouTubers. There has to be some simple way. If it’s not legal how are they getting around it???

I'm not sure if this works for video, but you can take screenshots when you normally couldn't if you disable hardware acceleration

It’s possible YouTube is demonetizing their videos if they are doing this. In other words, all revenue normally generated by advertising goes to the copyright holders.

I just confirmed that this works for video as well, at least with QuickTime Player's screen recording. This would require capturing audio separately, but maybe other screen recording apps take care of this already.

  • I use ClipGrab for this, but I have no idea how legal it is.

  • I don’t care at all about audio.
@Tarekith I will look at clipgrab

They could have approached the copyright holders and asked for permission to use a snippet of the content. The copyright holders might ok it, as it could promote their program.

Or the snippet could be part of a PR pack issued to the media for use.

These days a "high profile" YouTuber could get you more eyeballs than regular free to air TV show.

Yes, this works as well, and it has a few extra features compared to QuickTime Player, but it also requires hardware acceleration to be disabled in the browser for it to record Disney+, Netflix, etc.

  • I have to admit, I've often been surprised at how often a pretty popular YouTube channel has blatantly inserted some movie scene into their video and not gotten dinged for it. Meanwhile a few seconds from a song I use in a DJ mix instantly triggers a copyright warning. 🤷🏼‍♂️

I’ve often wondered if slowing/speeding the source playback by a semitone or two would be enough to circumvent that, and not just a simple warp either. I understand warping is actually more complex, but my point is to affect both pitch and speed, not just speed.

I’m talking about tricking any software, not a human moderator. I’m assuming this is how most get dinged? Digitally?

  • Isn't it fair use to use clips of short length as long as it’s a „citation“? If not we need to change the law lol

I suspect the laws are different for each country.
