Are you trying to sync start the file player and Xequence?
Or are you trying to trigger start/stop of the file player using midi control sent from Xequence?
@SevenSystems - The file player instances have a "play enable" parameter that can be toggled with MIDI using AUM's midi control. If play enable is active the player will start with the AUM transport, if not, it will begin playing when enable is toggled on.
In this case I think the question is about how to toggle this parameter from AUM. Doing so is just a matter of sending a note or midi message to AUM's midi control system. I'm guessing there's something not right in the routing.
@gdub - I figure you'll work it out, but if not, and that is what your question was about, I'm sure we can sort it out if you provide details of how you've tried setting it up.
Yep my question is activate the play enable toggle on the file player in AUM via a note from Xequence
I have drawn a note in Xequence set channel, in AUM have file player loaded with a clip, got play enable toggle button present, set midi channel and note cc set
But no joy
One thing I noticed was in the matrix AUM view, I can see all my av3’ etc which are receiving midi notes sent from Xequence , but the file player channel isn’t there, so I can’t do the route lines, if that makes sense, so perhaps this is the reason?
Yes, that's the reason. You the destination needs to be 'MIDI Control'.
Ok
Thanks @wim for clarifying that, I will not spend anymore time on trying to toggle the file player
It was to play a clip of my drums from koala, I couldn’t midi record it, so I saved it as a loop, in the last half hour I have now drawn the drums in Xequence and activate koala pads for my drum beat
Still learning Xequence ( which is a great app )
But life would be so much easier on iOS if AUM had a timeline view, as AUM is my go to app
But Xequence is fantastic and am sure this might be my new work flow along side AUM
Sorry, what did I say that made you give up? You can definitely do what you need to do with the file player from X2. Just set up an instrument to a channel not used for anything else with AUM as the destination. Then in AUM route 'AUM Destination' to 'MIDI Control'. Set the channel and note manually in the Play Enable parameter of the file player. You can find that parameter by tapping on the file player, then the little icon that looks like four faders in the window header.
That's the quick answer. I'll take a little time later to set up a better example with screenshots if it isn't enough and you decide to keep trying.
@wim
Thanks but I am not getting it to work
I will try again in the morning
Am sure it’s something I am doing wrong
Here's how I did it in testing just now:
Channel 16
out toAUM
for this instrument.AUM Destination
toMIDI Control
.Play enable
.CH 16
,NOTE
andC3 (48)
. TurnCycle
off.C4
on X2's keyboard. The file player will play as long as the note is held down and stop when you let go.Note the difference between
C3
in AUM andC4
in X2. This is a common mismatch when working with MIDI. There isn't a standard for octave numbering in the MIDI specification, and it happens that AUM and X2 use different conventions. I used MIDI Learn rather than setting the note manually in AUM to determine this. I just didn't want to complicate the steps to explain how to do MIDI Learn.Now. You can just place a note anywhere in X2's timeline when you want the loop to play back. The duration of the note will determine how long the player stays on. This is handy for visualizing when the clip is on in the timeline.
(Note: If you don't want to draw long notes then you can turn
Cycle
on. When you do that each note press will toggle the player on or off and you won't need to extend the note to keep the player running. Just place a note when you want to start, and another when you want to stop.)Good luck! Let me know if you need screenshots to illustrate further.
@wim
Thanks mate
Finally got it to work in a fresh new project
Went back to my old project and it won’t work, watching the Xequence keyboard on my clip trigger instrument and there’s notes triggering all over the keyboard , but no notes drawn??
I am on the beta, so perhaps ..
Also instruments that I had named weren’t showing in Xequence when I click the midi icon, I think my project is currupt
So thank you so much
Also the midi difference between the 2 apps was a confusing
@SevenSystems
Just wanted to say
At the end of the month when I get paid, I will be going from a beta tester to a Xequence 2 owner !! 😍
Sounds great, thanks! Every single sold unit counts! (seriously)
@SevenSystems
Or anyone else that can help
When using Xequence inside loopy pro
Sound is fine when actually on loopy pro, but when I switch to Xequence the sound goes really quite and only comes out the top speaker where you would listen when on the phone
This is really ruining the experience
Do you have background audio turned on in Loopy Pro?
@espiegel123
Yes I checked that
Shame, wish it had been the reason
If I check the other button in settings for
‘Mute speaker beside mic’ then it’s rubbish when in loopy but fine when in Xequence
Do you have the built-in Mic in your loopy mixer? if so, does turning echo cancellation or muting the mic have an impact?
what all is running on your ipad? when this happens?
@espiegel123
Turning echo cancellation was better
Deleted the mic is the best result
Sounds much better
Only got loopy and Xequence running on iPhone
Will try this on my iPad Pro tomorrow
Many thanks
@Gdub sorry for the trouble -- this is probably because Xequence has to constantly play a silent audio file so that iOS "allows" it to stay active in the background (which it needs to for many reasons). I'm not sure if this is still the proper way to get unlimited background time for an app, but it was back in 2017 when Xequence was born 😬
@SevenSystems the “poop” you have to work around
Still love Xequence
Things may have changed since then? Maybe Michael or Jonatan have ideas?
@SevenSystems and @espiegel123
Thanks for the reply
I am surprised that I may of been the only person to of experienced this, or mentioned this
As @espiegel123 mentioned perhaps there are solutions
2017 was a hella long time ago, and things have most probably moved on
@gdub: if this only happens when using built-in speakers and the internal mic, it might be that that isn't commonly done while also running Xequence and may nly happen on some devices.
Ok thanks
I have deleted the loopy pro mic from the mixer
I will have a try with my headphones in a bit
And I forgot my iPad in a usual rush to work
But as long as no one thinks I am trying to put down either app, as I think both of these apps kick arse
Just trying to get a streamline work flow
Xequence and loopy pro
And Xequence and AUM
I’m just trying to keep Xequence as my main time line as it’s layed out so well
I've no idea if this is still the case, but in earlier versions, I had problems if I deleted the mic input. Instead I just mute it.
BTW, is Xequence loaded into Loopy Pro as an IAA app? You can do that (load Xequence 2 standalone before trying to add it in Loopy Pro). It would be interesting to see if changing this affects anything.
On my wishlist for the next update: midi drag and drop.
Hi @SevenSystems
Are you are planning to beta test new Xequence features through Test Flight? I would be interested in signing up for that. (I already own Xequence 2, by the way.)
Let me second that! MIDI drag and drop would be great.
Hey. There will probably be a minor update coming soon, but I'm not yet sure if it requires a beta. If there is a major update in the future, I'll probably do a public beta again anyway, like with the MPE update.
Thanks though, I appreciate the offer to help!
You’re welcome! Cool, that sounds good.
@SevenSystems would you consider adding the ability to assign different colours to individual pads in Xequence 2 just as in the Xequence pads AU?
I use Xequence in conjunction with Loopy (split screen) and it would be helpful being able to play the clips in loopy with pads that have the same colour as the clips..
