    Kind of 😅

But only true for input that has a headroom of 2dB and works fine with your Gain +2dB.

The input is converted to floating point on import, so there's virtually infinite headroom and precision...

If the ceiling is about 0dB (no headroom in the source material) you cannot apply your +2dB - at least not without potential problems and depending on the bitdepth of your material.

The bit depth doesn't matter either here, as we're working internally in floating point. The source material doesn't really have the concept of "headroom". Obviously, you should've made sure during recording your input file from whatever DAW you've used that it hasn't clipped anywhere, but that's kind of expected... so yes, it should obviously have some headroom. But how much it has doesn't really matter for the mastering process, as any reasonable masteing suite will have an adjustable input normalizer anyway, potentially with a soft clipper.

  • i now have both those plugins and they work great. thanks for the help guys

So far, all my "real" limiting was done by FabFilter Pro-L2, but TB Barricade is a nice compact solution!

I think you'll love the saturation/clipping/console emulations in the first section of TB Barricade, after that push it thru the compressor before limiting etc. etc.

All the TB apps are really good 'tools' for many, many things (got them all).

You can try all the TB plug-ins for free on the desktop, only limitation is no saving of presets and you have to tap 'demo' when you open the plug-in. Most hosts remember the last used settings so... :sunglasses:
(Just download the installer from their home-page, this way you'll see what you get when you eventually buy them).
