A Long Wait

I see other improvising successfully.
I tried.
sorta.

So while I'm working on finishing the mix and master for "the End of Times", I got a little bit side tracked.

  • Hi Joseph,
You are a talented and prolific musician, and I appreciate your creations.
Your improvisations are unique and very nice to the ear.
The serenity of this composition is perfect with my first cup of coffee!!!
    Love this.
    Rene

  • Another great brooding dark atmosphere. Your music loves to live in the shadows B)

  • Thank @richardyot , seems my music is like me.

I think I already used all the English words I know on your previous posts... I will have to invent new ones : for this one I would say, increfabulistic track !

  • Thank you @JanKun but I for sure does't think it is actually very good. would need some work ...

If you think it is not good as it is, I can't wait to hear it when you'll be even half satisfied.

Just did a second take and cleaned up the thing a little bit.

  • It sounds great. After listening to this second take, I feel there is space for a distant and sparse high pitch voice or muted trumpet. This track also has a Lynch vibe.

  • @JanKun: therefore the title for the series: "an L universe".
A muted trumpet would add something indeed.

  • Improvising is nutritious, delicious and saves a lot of time. I actually prefer the first take with less emphasis on the cymbals. It’s all sooo subjective.

  • @LinearLineman improvising is really not my forte, I understand it saves you a lot of time: you're great at improvising and have a long experience.
I always envied musician who could improvise, juste sit on the piano and magically something great comes out.
If I don't have the music in my head before, not much comes out.
I woke up with a clear idea of a third part for this series, I'll write it down, play and record, and I'm pretty sure it will sound much better.

  • We all envy someone for something, Joseph. @jankun just detailed the somewhat complex chords I used in When She Smiles. I wish I could hear that! Well, I guess something in me hears that but I can’t define it. It’s irksome sometimes but we need to pay attention to our individual strengths. That’s my beef with the education I got. The emphasis that weaknesses must be focused on more than strengths.

Mike ! I think it is Joseph who brilliantly analyzed your chord progression on "When She Smiles" not me ! I only wrote a few naive lines inspired by your beautiful music.

LOL! Perfect. It was 7:30 AM without my glasses and, of course, I’m getting closer to blind. You see, Joseph, I envy you!!

  • @LinearLineman : I will exchange my perfect pitch ( that is starting to be unreliable by the way for some unknown reason) for your improvisation skills. I can put a box of Knappogue Castle 12 Year Single Malt in the deal :-)

  • If only we could join forces! Then we could both throw our lives away pursuing greatness 😉

  • I'm not that ambitious, pursuing not sucking would already be something for me.

  • I prefer the first version, less percussion more moody somehow.
The vocals? reminded me of Konnakol, the style of singing used in South Indian music as used by the great John McLaughlin with Shakti…
As usual, very different, very impressive 👍

  • So @GeoTony and @LinearLineman prefer the first version. I will have to keep that in mind if I ever decide to finalize this project.

    Thanks for listening.
