Garageband ipad white noise

Hello all, sorry if this has been asked a million times. Pretty new to recording and am using garageband on my ipad due to lack of funds for much else (such as proper mac etc) anyway, I use a Behringer C-1 condenser mic to record vocal and acoustic guitar BUT the background fuzz/whitenoise can be a real distraction. Can't find any eq on garageband or mastering? Can anyone offer me any advice please? Very much appreciated all. James

  • Which audio interface are you using with your condenser mic?

  • Oh blimey, afraid I have no idea what that would be? :/ I just use what ever the ipad/garageband uses :| wish I could answer better

  • What he means is.. What equipment are you plugging the mic cable into? The mic requires phantom power, so I doubt it's going straight into the iPad. Then you need another connection from that equipment into the iPad. That will either be plugged into the iPad headphone socket (yes, I know, WTF Apple?) or into the dock connector. If you're using the headphone socket input, don't. Big crosstalk and feedback problems.

Basically, you either need a specialised dock with a mic input and phantom power, or a mixer with the same that has a USB output that you plug into a Camera Connection Kit (long story, Apple again) which plugs into the dock connector on the iPad.

  • Or to put it another way: how is your C-1 mic plugged into your iPad?

if you use the headphone jack: recordings will be mediocre or OK.

if you use the dock connector: its pure digital recording, so recordings will be as good as your gear allows.
