AirVox alternative

edited November 2022 in General App Discussion

AirVox was an app that used camera to detect pitch of a moving hand in front of it.

It was a cool theremin emulation.

I do own it but just checked and don’t see it in the AppStore.

I’m about to make a presentation of iOS apps suitable for use in music therapy and AirVox was one of the apps I was going to talk about.

I know that @giku_beepstreet has a working prototype of this in Drambo but it may take a while for it to see light of day.

I wonder it there’s anything similar out there.

Cheers

  • I’m sure you know VOSIS. Yes?. It’s crazy and I can’t anything musical out of it but it’s cool.
Don’t know about therapy though, just spent a couple of minutes with it to write this and my anxiety is up 80% 😂

Haha, yeah, and you are technologically savvy.

    Thanks I’ll check it out.

Playing with another very cool app TC 11 I found in options that camera brightness can be used as pitch control. It actually works pretty well but not as good as AirVox.

  • Don’t forget TC11 also has accelerometer so it can translate tilt and shift etc
In fact so can original Animoog (haven’t checked on the new one for that) and also iVCS3 I think (and if it can, so can all the other in that family - iSnedity and suchlike)

  • How about MusiKraken? Can do all sorts of midi things using the camera. On sale too.

Just got it. The app is quite something. Quite a learning curve but I was able to play neo soul keys with my mouth within the first 10 mins so result!! Thanks for the suggestion.

Yes, I was aware of tc11 using the accelerometer but just found out about the camera too. I spent an hour just messing with the split screen mode. Such an amazing app.

I’ll check your other suggestions although I can’t say I get on with iVCS3 or other apps by Apesoft. They make my brain hurt, somehow ;)

    Thanks!
