Is it music… who knows (or cares) but it kept me interested for 6 minutes 😊
Well, it is music if it is the author's intent. That is an interesting variation on the "musique concrète" like the French call it.
The non musicality that goes with the genre has in the end some weird musicality qualities.
Now, the question is: is all that intentional or just random?
Well, its half-half.
Most times i mess around with samples and sequencers and effects. Experiment with it. In this journey an idea comes in mind. With tweaking and adding more stuff i try to come to an end result. I let randomness a part of it, if it fits within the experience.
I am not good in making a track on forehand, but more getting an idea by experimenting.
It is an interesting way of achieving something different.
I liked hearing your use of Loopmix; it opens new possibilities for that.
Yes! a venerable path to follow.
My use case of Loopmix:
Curating loops with a glitchy sound like the ones from Glitchmachines or Glitch With Friends, or drone loops like wind-drones.
I load Loopmix up in AUM
On each channel i decide if i want to play back the whole loop or the 4-bar loop. In case of a 4-bar loop, i look for the interesting parts by offset the loop.
On each channel i set the playback speed.
On each channel i decide the number of reverses and repeats.
With drone sounds i decide if i want to randomise pitch
I set the tempo in AUM to a low BPM
Then i do a bunch of randomisations, and the ones i like, i store it under a key in the remixes section.
in AUM i open up the Riffer (Audiomodern) sequencer, set it to octaves C3 and C4 and connect it to Loopmix
Riffer randomly plays snippets of each loop in the remixes section.
In Loopmix, i set the time division of the sequencer to low. (1/4, 1/2, 1)
Then i let AUM run for a while and record it to a track.
I load the track on a new channel in AUM with a certain playback speed, and i disable Loopmix.
On that channel i use Gauss with Monitor on and overdub with a decay ratio. Playback in half speed and reverse.
Then i use FAC Alteza to smear out (shimmer) a little, and for a reverb sound.
Add loops and percussions/drum for taste
EDIT:
The use case described above is more related to this track:

A musical soundscape, indeed!
You successfully created a scene in my mind, and quite unknown, like I just woke up inside a dream.
Whoooo, great work, @Identor !

Thank you for your detailed description! I hadn't thought about using Riffer to play snippets. I have held off getting Loopmix but this type of sound design really gets me interested. And Gaus - after almost two years, it has suddenly clicked with me. and I've been finding all sorts of happy accidents with it. Most recently combining with Other Desert Cities.
