@jo92346 has now got me on a solo piano jag. This piano sound is particularly good, IMO. I always put some compression on the piano, usually Cubasis’ Channel Strip default setting. But here I’m using Cubasis Waves‘ L1 Ultramaximizer on the Mastering setting. It’s a bit gentler, i think.
Ravenscroft 275.

beautiful. good piano doesn't need anything else.
I personally never compress the piano (and most solo instruments): my fingers are the compressor.
Another amazing set of weird and wonderful chords. Love the harmonic progressions.
@jo92346 doesn’t compression also add a little fatness to the sound? Not just lowering the loud and raising the soft?
Thanks for the praise @AlterEgo_UK. I appreciate your listening.
well, no one was ever capable of explaining what that fatness is supposed to be.
to me, and for my kind of music, the compressor on individual natural instruments tends to kill all the expression.
Just a bit of compression on the finished track can help when the dynamic range is really too big.
@jo92346 my experience with compression is purely subjective, of course. I just find it works for my ears. Also seems to improve the sound when played back on an iPad, IMO.
I played this several times last night. After a few listens I put it in the background and created an acoustic bass sequence to accompany it. Then I added some light, random drums and an occasional flugelhorn. I thought it sounded pretty good. I would love to get a copy of this and do it up right. Interested?
Sure @Paulieworld. I’d like that. You can download it from SoundCloud or I can send you a wav,
Got it. Things are a little slow today so I jumped on the forum for a few minutes. I'll post it to my Bandcamp site in a few days for you to review. Thanks!
@Paulieworld sounds good. You might post on ABF as well.
I'd like you to give it a listen, and maybe discuss it a bit before I post to Soundcloud and ABF. My Bandcamp site gets very few hits so it's a good temporary holding place. I started it last night. I think it sounds pretty good.
@Paulieworld that’s fine, bro.
More lovely playing. I’m excited to hear the upcoming collaboration.
+1 @MadeofWax and with the passage of time I can now listen to the collaboration straightaway…
Thx @MadeofWax and @GeoTony. Glad you liked it.
So many beautiful creations on the forum lately... Hard to listen to everything. This is beautiful Mike !
