Wow!!
Need J Dilla's review when it will come out
I mean, that’s pretty sick. I’ll definitely give it a try!
downloaded for my windows touch machine-
so far have only found that its touch optimized, but workflow-wise its a mystery, have never touched the real deal.
have to find a manual for the hardware version to get started on this one
im acclimated to the Akai/Retronyms iMPC 2, wondering functionality wise how they differ. workflow decades apart…
Might be easiest to find a YouTube video doing a walkthrough of the 2000XL:
thanks, visual learner, me!
You’re welcome! I changed up the video above to something more basic.
I’ve never owned one, but I know a little bit from watching videos.
I’m curious if this app has the “explode to pads” feature.
Wasn’t a fan of my 2000XL when I got it, so while I find this interesting it’s not an app I’ll be rushing to buy.
i still own this so i will definitely will feel at home using this, hopefully it doesn’t come with all the real hardware limitations, because the hardware was great but limited, which it was the reason why users sold them to get the the next better one,
so hopefully this app has the experience of the hardware but with updated features, like mute groups, choke groups, pitching a set of group of pads at the same time instead of one by one, also a band pass and high pass filter instead of just a low pass filter, an Eq which only came with an fx board which it wasn’t per pad, it was actually a global eq, plus having an reverb, delay and compressor build in will be great
also a real resampling function,
also being able to preview a sample before loading the sample,
basically what im saying is that if a developer is going to emulate a hardware don’t just emulate everything as it was originally , a developer should also included those extra features that we user wish we had already included in the hardware, basically making the app like an updated mpc 2000xl, and not the same outdated hardware
I agree, and it doesn’t look like it in this case (I’ve only delved a bit, on the Windows version only). Maybe we can bend the dev to our will once the iOS version is in motion…
Admittedly there is a perverse appeal in presenting a slavish port of the original awkward very limited tool.
The Akai Retronyms iMPC Pro 2 does most of what you’re looking for and some extras, but I know that for some there’s not much love for that app ‘round here.

Lol won’t have that “Warm Dirty” 16bit 44.1k sound
Don’t we already have 2 Official MPC apps
This is kind of silly, give me the 3000le that was the best looking MP
The could have at least cleaned up the unit...
...and focus more on the functionality and give it a modern UI.
seems like this is more like that Fairlight port, an “homage” to an og workflow…
Yes, but none of them really captured the workflow of a real MPC imo, Akai hired Retronyms as the developer and I don’t think anyone there actually used one as their main sampler or sequencer for real. I used the 2000 for like 10 years, I have the Mpc Studio Black and 2 Mpc Live 2’s and the IPad MPCs just didn’t get the workflow right to me. I bought all the IPad MPCs and I’m just not a fan.
True and the Fairlight (Vogel CMI Pro) app is barely usable in its current state...![:sunglasses: :sunglasses:](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/sunglasses.png)
It was a good source for the original samples which I've since long extracted for use with other apps
Not keen on direct port emulations they are usually poor relations to the real thing and don’t work for touch.
I can see how a real MPC dial and fader can make for a great user experience, but based on other apps that have tried to replicate that workflow (e.g. Electribe) I don't think it necessarily translates well to software, either touch or mouse-based
are you using this on iOS, and if so, are there any issues you have to overcome? (assuming this is the OG Studio, and not the 2)
The MPC Studio (any version) is a controller exclusively for MPC Software on Mac/PC.
It has no connectivity features outside that context except it transmits midi notes and CCs.
Early versions of the software (called Essentials back then) are fairly close to a MPC 2000 xl, but Akai (InMusic) constantly watered up the original style in favor of their „integrated DAW“ concept.
Finally it was labeled „MPC Software“ and Studio support was (almost completely) ceased.
I used Essentials 1.2 for a while and it was a nice solution: you could control production entirely from the integrated LCD, but also use the PC/Mac monitor for larger timeline or sample display, drag and drop file selection, etc.
(iirc only for name entry you had to use the keyboard)
But the software was quite sensitive to screen redraw. High graphic activity resulted in noticeable lags of timing.
If its not obvious already in the thread, I’m a fan of the Akai/Retronyms MPC apps (4 all in, including the one inside Tabletop, which in standalone i guess is off the appstore - iMPC Pro). Even the first iMPC is pretty fun…
So creating beats and managing sounds will be “quite clumsy”. So what the hell is the point lol? Guess I’ll pass on this one
purists…
Thats all i need to know and if that works on iOS![;) ;)](https://forum.loopypro.com/resources/emoji/wink.png)
i'm not looking for the integration....just if its class compliant and all those buttons on the right send notes/ccs
IMPC pro 2 was dreadful. I really hope this is better.
Sorry, the Studio sends midi out via it‘s (adapted) DIN sockets... but only if turned to life by a PC/Mac and MPC Software.
On it‘s own it‘s a brick playing a light show. No functionality at all... NOTHING
Made my first beat ever on the 2000XL 20+ years ago so this is exciting
I've often dreamt of a more/less 1-1 ios version of my beloved MPC2000 (non-XL but likely similar enough) as there was a true magic to the workflow: definitely not the most efficient but enough inherent mojo to make up for it.
Would said 1-1 version "translate" the original experience? Looks like soon-ish we'll find out!
It’s the original studio black not the latest, I’ll feel like the latest one isn’t really an upgrade, it doesn’t have the lcd screen, you have to look at your monitor a lot more vs the original. I’m not using it with IOS, I’m actually about ready to sell it , I use the Live 2 mainly now.
