  • Brilliant tutorial Doug! Samplr has to be my all time favourite ios music app. I really really hope the developer hasn't given up on it. It's been a while since the last update. We should sign a petition for an update. Ios musicians unite!!!!

  • Thanks Doug! It would be great to see anything else from this developer, such a wonderful app

  • Great video doug, you missed one very big feature tho IMHO. Turning off slice markers (setting 0) for the looper and the e-bow, so they don't snap to the slice markers. You can get some amazing sounds with the quantize/slices off!

  • thx doug, for your vid & to bring samplr into discussion again....
@maarten good idea with the petition.

    update is a while ago....

what i really missed is a sample editor, the midi implementation & a better sync...& state saving of course ;;-)

  • Yes a sample editor would be excellent, even if it was just a basic one like Trim and Normalise, state saving would be good too, maybe the video will generate some interest and let the dev know that we all love the app.

  • YES doug, hope marcos here us....
seem he is bussy on other projects...:

answer from ManSelf inside the samplr/forum:

    MansELF July 29:

"I heard from Marcos yesterday on our Facebook group; iPad music! He says he is sorry. He's been very busy and had some personal issues. He is working on the update. But, we didn't get a date yet."

Regarding the sample editing, it isn't a perfect solution but you can at least drag the slice markers so that the sample starts playing where you want, can't you?

  • Great demo / tutorial. I agree that a basic trim function would be a very useful addition.

Samplr desperately needs a few features which i hope will come in future updates :)

    • Trim recording. (Quite obvious...).
    • Cut/Delete unwanted parts of the recording to make it easier to create 'sound kits' without using too much storage.
    • More 'record modes'. (Add a 'record while holding down rec-button').
    • Optional 'Set length for recording (number of bars & beats)'
    • Overdub recording (multiple layers & takes per 'slot', human-beatboxers will love this).
    • Record mute/unmute of 'slot-layers' when using the sequencer.
    • Select active slot-layer (could be used to toggle say between Major and Minor Chords).
    • Set length of the 'Sequence' (No more 1 bar + 1 beat because stop was pressed just a few milliseconds too late when playing the Samplr app).
    • 'Pads' when using 'Sliced Modes' (Some slices might be to small to hit precisely).
    • Expressive 'Pads' (edge of pad low volume, center of pad full volume, or why not X&Y control of filter or effect per pad, crossfade between pad-layers etc.).
    • Pad playback mode reverse, loop on/off, hold, on/off etc.
    • More than 6 slots please :)

Sorry, just too many ideas pop up when playing around with the apps...

  • +1 @Samu. Great suggestions! I'll leave a link to this post in the Samplr forum. This way we can show the dev our appreciation for his work and help him to improve the app.

  • I would like to see IAA , maybe each pad can act as a seperate IAA node, much like a DAW.

Or a per pad output in AB much like Loopy. These features will really open up the sonic possibilities, resampling becomes a reality.

  • I left a note for the developer at the Samplr forum

    http://samplr.net/forum/index.php?p=/discussion/263/great-new-tutorial-video-and-samplr-appreciation-thread-in-the-audiobus-forum#Item_1

    • I'd love to see more sample slots
    • and the ability to record all sample channels simultaneously into another DAW through audiobus.
  • Nicely done Sir Doug. Monsterish in its epicness.

  • Thanks Doug. Quite helpful!

  • Mine crashes on Dropbox import, hope that gets sorted out and some of the features mentioned here get implemented.

    Thanks for the vid.

  • Nice work Doug. Glad I already own it!

Yes, but that doesn't help automatic slicing. If you record a two bar loop but have a any amount of head or tail on it, the beat based slices don't line up.

I don't really think it needs a whole editing suite — it needs the ability to set the master in/out points (meaning it doesn't need to actually trim/process the sample).

Multi out AB would be lovely for capturing multitrack performances.

I quite like the chops-to-pads idea too but beatmaker already does a pretty swimming job at that.

  • Great, informative video. Included samplr in my set up most recently, it works great but seem to load projects with LP filter shut on main and individual tracks, even her I save it open. Anyone experiencing this?

  • definitely needs -panning
definitely needs- motion recording of every parameter on the page including fx
definitely needs- in slot sample editing for creating seamless loops (why on earth would you want to open another app for that when you're in the heat of creative inspiration!
definitely needs- the ability to save/load samples into/from folders of your own choosing
definitely needs chop to -sample slots

  • edited August 2014

    yes, some fundamentals like

    cut/crop/normalize sample

MIDI CC & a correct switchabel Sync

    would be....essential.

Motion Recording of every parameter and a seperat room/hall fx for the slots (not global)
    would be real great...

  • Thanks for the vid Doug, cleared up a couple of things that had still been a mystery to me :p
Such a fantastic App, despite its few absent features. Hopefully the dev will have the opportunity to make some additions at some point :)

    Definitely needs punctuation.

  • Wow, thanks for taking the time to share this great video on an app that has been a mystery to me. You have shown that it is much deeper than I ever expected after using it only a few times. Not that I can use it like it was designed to be used but at least I know that it can be useful if I try.

  • There's also the pitch bend. Just slide the number on the transposition menu. (Octave up - Octave out) I've used it once or twice.

It could get into the list of midi implementations.

  • haha Sonicflux that's your Job :)

  • you wouldn't by chance be beta testing samplr would you doug?

  • Sadly no, anyone heard anything about the update

  • i was just curious cause Marcos seems so busy, whom ever is testing for him is quite good at keeping secrets :)
