Compusynth400 by Giorgio Sancristoforo

Programmable west coast modular synthesizer by Giorgio Sancristoforo

Compusynth is a modular synthesizer that takes inspiration from the west coast paradigm and the mighty Altair8800, one of the first personal microcomputers available to the hobbyists in the mid 70s.

With its peculiar 128 bit sequencer, oscillators, filters, efxs and processors, Compusynth is a powerful sonic laboratory thanks to its generous resources and flexible routing with 1596 patch points!

  • Very cool, I held my breath for a link to an iOS version 😩

  • Can’t some wiz kid coder partner up with Giorgio to make all his apps auv3!? I’d buy them all again!

Yeah, they look like they’d be perfect for the iPad screen!

  • WAITAMINUTE 1596 patch points? I almost spit up my tea when I read that. I don't know whether to drool or cry. How is that manageable screen and brain-wise?!? My brain obviously needs an OS update

Up to now, Giorgio has said he won't be making plugin versions of his instruments. In a way I think it's refreshing that a developer sticks to what he does best - the Windows versions even take a couple of months longer to release than the Mac ones but I can see the potential for these amazing creations on an iPad.

For that, we already have the iVCS3. ;)

  • Jesus Christ, this guy is not only a genius but also a hard worker. Isn't it just a few months since he popped out his last gem. Damn, these would be so good on iOS

I almost made a whole album from Ongaku noodlings, love his stuff.

Now, if you could pull a few Gavinski strings and get him to team up with @brambos ….

  • He has said it’s just not possible with the way he makes stuff (I think they’re max patches wrapped up somehow) but I was hoping that maybe that new framework they recently put out might change his mind. The only other problem is that the clamour for auv3 would likely knock the gloss off pretty quickly…

Hmmm, I'm sure Brambos wouldn't need me to help him pull those strings!

What we maybe need is for some ios dev with good UI skills to make their own versions inspired by these

Definitely yes. They basically dream iPad. Apps, for me they fit the sort of experimental, meditative philosophy that works so well on iOS
