Drambo MIDI-mapping ideas

There are already some great threads (like this one) on choosing a hardware controller for Drambo, but what about ideas for MIDI mapping those controllers?

I like to attach the Magic Keyboard case to my iPad, and the first thing I do is map the spacebar to start/stop (not MIDI, but the same idea).

I also have a NanoKontrol2 than would be good for general track and mixing duties, send levels etc.

But what about more creative setups?

Comments

  • With Drambo
Does it save the midi per project or global so you are always mapped to the controller, like if you start a new project the controller is mapped ??

  • Or can I save the mapping like in AUM?

In Drambo, the MIDI mapping is saved with the project. You could create and save a template and start a project with that. But remember, Drambo is modular, so you're likely to map different controls in different modules in each project. You could create a set of "performance knobs", map them in a template, then use them to modulate controls in a project. Those decisions are all up to the user though.

  • @uncledave
    Thanks
    That was what I expected
    Built some templates

  • What about this one:
Map ASCII keyboard or MIDI messages to each of the notes in CV quantizer.
That will let you change the playback scale of your recorded track on the fly by toggling individual notes.
If you prefer switching between preset scales, use multiple CV quantizers with the scales you need and switch between them using MIDI => Channel Filter modules

  • I set up a super simple MIDI map, just mutes, transport, and record controls with the Nanokontrol, plus the OP-1 for keys.

Wow, what a setup! It’s like playing with a Digitakt or Octatrack, only better, and the hardware controls really sell it.

I have liked Drambo all along, but now it’s in danger of taking over as my main hub.

Such a cheap but useful, space saving controller 😊

  • Anyone have any interesting or unique ideas with a launchpad? I kind of find it a little clunky by itself with Drambo when switching layouts so I usually have to add a nanokontrol to take care of the utility stuff

  • I only use the launchpad for playing notes with Drambo. With Loopy Pro, though, it’s amazing.

How did you get the buttons to light up on Nanokontrol?

  • @Agatha_aga The Nanokontrol takes care of it by itself. You have to have the Nanokontrol’s buttons set to “toggle” in the Korg editor. Then, set the mute buttons in Drambo to (iirc) momentary.

Now that is a nice setup. If only the bank account would allow… (and the wife 🤣)

How would you wire this? Ie where would the cv quantiser go to affect all or selected of the tracks in the sequence? I guess one wouldn’t want the drum tracks to change.

I would definitely use CV quantisers per track so you can decide which ones to include in the mapping.
As you know, one remote control message can now be mapped to multiple destinations.

Yeah, it’s great although I prefer mk1. It has scenes and knob caps stay a bit more securely.

But all in all great value.

Yeah the integration with Loopy is perfect, I really hope to see Drambo get that

Same here. And the mk1 has 9 insted of 8 faders 😊

Not sure if the right thread. How do I map one instance of “MIDI Layers” app to few midi channels in order to program change them
