New Track | DanSeb - Empty Spaces | Melodic House | Cubasis 3
Hi all,
Here's my latest track 'Empty Spaces' , produced using Cubasis 3 (Video made with FL Studio).
It's made using multiple instances of Sitala & Koala for the percussion elements - all routed through a drum bus for group processing. Bass sounds are via Bass808, Moog Model D, Zeeon and Aparillo (via their own bass bus). Synths are multiple instances of Zeeon, Synthmaster 2, Tal-U-No-LX, Poseidon and a live recording of the Korg Minilogue XD, all through a synth bus, again for group processing.
Mastering effects consist mostly of FabFilter apps, along with the MagicDeathEye master compressor.
Hope you enjoy, and any comments welcome.

Sounds great, really well crafted. Love the 303 twangs. Your Cubasis seq overview is so beautiful, a work of art.
Vocal - Strip it yourself, sample pack or found an acepella? Pitch shifted within Cubasis? Sorry for being nosey but I'm always interested to hear how other do their vocals. Timing seems spot on.
Thanks for the Feedback FPC! The vocals are from a Black Octopus Sound sample pack (Zara Taylor - Music Box). There was no pitch shifting involved (I just worked in the key of the sample - Em) but getting them to work with the track was quite a challenge - there was a single acapella file labelled 'Empty Spaces - Freestyle' with no tempo information. After chopping up the various phrases across a couple of octaves using Koala, they just about worked with the track (at 130bpm), but not quite, in places. I therefore created a few 'overlapping' slices here and there to stretch some parts out (and cut others slightly) to better fit the beat (there was also a lot of shifting MIDI notes around 'off grid'), so I'm very pleased to hear you felt it sounded in sync in the end!
This is a very well crafted piece of music. Just seeing that screenshot of Cubasis makes me realize how much I still need to learn. Great job!
Thanks very much MadeofWax! I got some nice comments on the accompanying screenshot last time I posted a track here so thought I'd continue doing the same thing moving forwards. I'd be very interested to see other people's project screenshots too - you can almost 'follow along' as you listen to the track.
Mine all follow a similar format - percussion red, bass blue, synths green and vocals pink (with some colour variances within the instrument lane, to signify different pattern variations).
'Glad' to hear it's not just me with this sort of issue! I'm doing one now where the 1st verse works perfectly but the 2nd verse is being a right pain in the arse.
I only ever bother shifting the notes to a maximum 64th res but maybe I should try completely unquantised.
I've done ones in the past that the singer is quite obviously not singing in time but this can lead to some happy accidents.
Hah, I hope you get there in the end! As you say, with vocals you can often get away with things not being strictly on the beat (moreso than any other part), but the problem tends to come when you've got longer phrases that start off perfectly in time then slowly drift out of time towards the end. I think the best solution usually is to chop up the phrase into smaller (& smaller) sections as required, but it can certainly be a time-consuming process!
I'm sure '64th note quantise' is absolutely fine for shifting things around, I'm just in the habit of turning the grid off completely for this sort of operation.
wow, this is really cool. I always admire it when people produce a whole track inside iOS DAWs. it can be done!
awesome. House is not my main genre but I think it really sounded good. Who did the vocals?
Sample Pack? A friend?
Keep it up, mate
Very hip, and sophisticated sounds.
Love this vibe.
I feel younger, and groovy!!!
Love this recording.

Really nice…
Thanks very much for the comments David - it can indeed be done - especially with all the 'desktop quality' plugins available for iOS these days!
The vocals are from a Black Octopus Sound sample pack (Zara Taylor - Music Box).
Haha, thanks very much Rene - I'm pleased I could inspire a feeling of youthfulness!
Thanks Rajah
Love this. Very creative use of the vocal sample - it sounds great!
Thanks very much AlterEgo!
Didn’t know what to expect but thoroughly enjoyed it… bit Bjorkish vocal wise in some places?
Quite enjoyable, well done
Thank you for sharing.
Glad to hear it, thanks! I think i know what you mean regarding the vocals - I can hear some similarities - a bit of an 'ethereal' quality to them perhaps.
Thank you for listening!
