21st century Vivaldi… what do you think?

I’ll hold back my own thoughts on this for now.

Then there’s this…

Comments

  • I prefer Apocalyptica, since they lean into the “metal “ influences more but I’m glad you shared this. I had not heard of the Asturia quartet. Very fine playing with some modern production. I’m not sure I agree with some of the percussion bits added here and there but I’m sure their producers have a much better idea of what they do than some iPad hobbyist like myself.

  • Thank you again. I had never seen Valentina Lisitsa before. What an amazing performance! Just watching her hands as she plays is something to behold. Definitely enjoyed Palladio from Asturia quartet and the solo piece by Miroslava as well. So much good music. Always grateful for being pointed towards things I might never discover on my own.

Too bad there was all that shipyard noise going on 😵‍💫

My favourite piece by Vivaldi. Fantastic interpretations by four absolutely gorgeous women. 🥰 I'm in love with the music and the women.

I think Vivaldi would be absolutely enthralled that 300 years later his pieces live on and are being interpreted in a modern sense. There actually was a time when Vivaldi's works went largely forgotten within Western Classical music up until the 20th century despite him being one of the most prolific composers of the Baroque era.

    Yes, I'm a music nerd. 🤓

  • Valentina Lisitsa, what a pianist. Been following her on YT for years. The only downside? Having to sit through tons of SimplyPiano ads that get attached to her videos!

  • And as for the Vivaldi, wasn't it him that said "do what you want with my music, just don't make it boring darling", yeah, sure it was him. I come from the school of thought that music is always there to be discovered rather than invented, and different generations simply tune in and interpret music through their own zeitgeist.
All very interesting from a copyright perspective (as Adam Neely has recently explored) but I love the idea of music living on (as long as it isn't boring!)

  • And while everyone else is asleep, I'll add the words "Switched On Bach" into the conversation :-)

  • I can't stop myself today. My favourite version of this Petzold minuet, with Emma Wiggle's version a close second, lol.

  • I'm all up for reinterpretations.

I tried it myself this year (for the first time), had a couple of hours of fun butchering Beethoven in a tracker.
