The Christmas Song, Mel Torme and Robert Wells 1945
"The Christmas Song" sometimes titled "Chestnuts Roasting on an Open Fire" or, as it was originally subtitled, "Merry Christmas to You" is a classic Christmas song written in 1945 by Robert Wells and Mel Tormé.
According to Tormé, the song was written in July during a blistering hot summer. In an effort to "stay cool by thinking cool", the most-performed Christmas song was born. "I saw a spiral pad on his (Wells's) piano with four lines written in pencil", Tormé recalled. "They started, 'Chestnuts roasting..., Jack Frost nipping..., Yuletide carols..., Folks dressed up like Eskimos.' Bob didn't think he was writing a song lyric. He said he thought if he could immerse himself in winter he could cool off. Forty minutes later that song was written. I wrote all the music and some of the lyrics."
The Nat King Cole Trio first recorded the song in June 1946.
Dedicated to @LinearLineman, and to all beautiful peoples of our world!

Thanks for that, @ReneAsologuitar. Lovely rendering. You're looking good without the hat! A little rabbinical, maybe. No, mayb, I’ll Be Home For Christmas and you’ll be done with seasonal songs till New Year’s.
Thank you Rene and Clarissa for that splendid performance. It’s one of my favorite holiday songs (especially the Nat King Cole version) and the two of you really made it special.
Merry Christmas to you and your loved ones.

Clarissa and I are so thankful for your wonderful comments.
Clarissa grew up with our music, and she knows a lot of the songs from the 60s, 70s, , especially love songs from Nat king Cole.
Thank you, @MadeofWax !!!
Warm regards,
Rene and Clarissa

Hi, Rene, you still have time to post “I’ll Be Home For Christmas” on the Xmas track thread. Fingers crossed, bro. 🤞✌️🙏
Thanks for the inspiration, Mike!!!
Your guidance and motivation got me over the edge.
I am almost there with my Covid recovery, finally tested positive the other day, after a bout of sneeze and little cough.
Got my 2nd booster a couple of weeks ago, so I should be done with this bug a a day or two.
Thanks for the push.
Respectfully,
Rene
