I've Never Been In Love Before (ft. Bootsy)

@Bootsy sang a beautiful version of Chet Baker's 'I've Never Been In Love Before' (from the musical 'Guys and Dolls'). It's so good I had to add some guitar to it - hope you like.

  • Me like very a lot (pardon my french)! Superb guitar playing. I sense some love for Joe Pass and Kenny Burrell in your playing. Is it something you came up with by yourself or is it inspired by existing recordings played by different instruments that you arranged for guitar? Curious to hear about your process. Nice playing.
Guitar and vocals blend nicely, and you did a great job on the audio production too. The original a cappella from @Bootsy had some metallic audio artifacts from the reverb he used. There is clearly some audio engineering wizardry at play here, or is it some kind of Korean black magic ?

I am truly loving this combination.
Distinctly, two masterpieces here, and love both!
Your guitar playing is so classy and full of lovely artistry, @pbelgium - simply love it!!!
Thanks for this genius of a creation.

Thanks @JanKun. I do love Joe Pass. I listened to the Chet Baker version before recording this. I did 4 (or 5) takes and settled on this one mainly because I liked the outro - the last chord I landed on is an A Maj7(#5) (or C#/A), an unusual sound which is 'too strange and strong'.
To fix the reverb I had to go to desktop. Izotope RX dialogue de-reverb, no other magic was used - I don't think you can do anything like that on iOS.

Thank you so much for the kind words @ReneAsologuitar, it means a lot coming from you - more Christmas cheer, please.

  • Sounds great indeed, in this case I would have added a little reverb on both (found the reverb a little too much in the voice only version), great playing, great vocal.

  • Thanks for listening @NeuM @Franketti.

Thanks @cabo. The de-reverb didn't remove all reverb from the vocal, so I was a bit hesitant to add more reverb back again, just a hint of DDMF Magicverb to try to make us sound like we were in the same room - perhaps needed a touch more.

  • You wrapped the guitar around the vocals beautifully, wouldn’t change anything 👍

  • Thanks very much @GeoTony much appreciated.
