CCK to lightening midi in ... audio out?

With my old iPad, I can simply connect the CCK and use the 3.5mm headphone jack on the ipad for my audio output.

As my iPhone 12 does not have a 3.5mm headphone socket, how do I get audio out when using the CCK to get midi in?

Use a USB hub and a USB DAC. You may need a powered hub, or at least power to the CCK.

  • There was a 2 step process for me… I picked a USB HUB that supported a degree of mobility in design and had a good selection of port types:

But after getting this Hub I noticed that the standard iPad charger did NOT light up the “powering up ‘lightning bolt’ icon. And I started reading the fine print:

I so started shopping for a Power Adapter with more than 45W and went crazy getting a 100W USB adapter to avoid more surprises and to insure very rapid re-charging. As it turns out I just leave the Hub attached to power with headphones added at all times.

Anker has since announce a gaggle of smaller devices with more cable type options and a truly mobile “145W Power Bank”:

  • @McD This is very interesting, but the OP has an iPhone 12 with Lightning, but no headphone jack. Legacy technology.

I have a lot of time on my hands. The mention of the iPad in the first sentence triggered me to tell my story... again. Someone will ask the right question and I'll be ready.

For iPhone Lightning, the CCK is great with an audio interface with headphone control, MIDI ports and audio. There's some small options like the IK Multimedia products... many ship with Lightning and USB-A cable types. I also like the Zoom audio devices.
