Resonatedo - adding tuned resonances to Fractal Bits (VID & GIVEAWAY!: See Pinned YouTube Comment)

Resonatedo - adding tuned resonances to Fractal Bits (Like Objeq but you can PLAY it like a keyboard instrument!)

I HAVE 5 COPIES OF ANY APP BY ALEXEY TO GIVE AWAY - DETAILS ARE IN THE PINNED TOUTUBE COMMENT

Resonatedo by Alexey Nadzharov for iOS has several cool features:
1. Can be used to resonate percussive sounds, making them melodic
2. Can be used to create resonances on top of existing harmonic material
3. You can ‘play’ it with the inbuilt keyboard or with a sequencer, as I am doing here with Zoa - for this, you need to send the sequencer to the keyboard in your host app, then route the keyboard midi to Resonatedo. This gives it a huge advantage over a resonator app like Objeq, which can’t really be ‘played’ in this way.
4. Supports EDO tunings
5. Notes can be sustained and modulated with what the dev describes as ring modulation but to me sounds more like tremolo
6. A glide function
7. Mix settings to control how much dry signal remains
8. A color knob that changes the tonality of the resonances by controlling the balance of the low pass, all pass and high pass filters

  • Wonder what it can do with drone-like sounds, or PaulXStretched sounds...

  • Gavinski pls
    if you can
feed it with some noisy field recording
    or noise-ish material
I wonder how it responds to that...
    thnx

Well, fractal bits is basically noise already! But sure, you can even email me a file if you want (email is in the About section of my channel)

  • Nice, looks like it does what it looks like it does 😁

Here you go, unlisted vid based on a weird animal call and stuck through PaulXStretch

  • Gavinski:
    smth like
    https://sound-effects.bbcrewind.co.uk/search?q=07072060
    will do ...
or others in the same veign: long noisy scapes.
    thnx

  • oh!
    it acts quite nicely:)
is it heavy on cpu ?!

Yeah definitely interesting for soundscape stuff as well as the sequenced stuff I demoed in my main video. Just tested dsp - with file player and this I was starting on around 3%, as I added more sustained notes, like 10 or so, it went up to 8% and when I duplicated that channel, dsp use doubled again. So it’s not light but it’s not particularly heavy. This with buffer size of 256 and on a 2018 Pro. It’s cheap no? Just get it lol

  • yep I'll get it.
    thnx!

  • Just…wow…

Definitely a greeeat app for evolving ambiant music. The quantity of parameters that you can midi control is amazing

  • love at 1st play for me!:)
    thanks Alex.
the only issue I have is that it goes hot very fast.
maybe it needs some internal limiter/volume smart mixer...

    but its really good.

@Gavinski does it react to MIDI note off’s? seems it holds/latches every MIDI note you feed it and there’s no (MIDI) way to turn off a note?

    great sounding thing btw!

I have tested with Scaler 2 and yes, it seems that there is no note off. But if I use Progression, then there is note off...so I would say that it "usually" works

This sounds like a really fun sound design tool. Does it just smash into the red immediately for you or does it get there quickly after the resonance builds?

Yes, definitely an internal limiter would be good, or use an external one - as u saw in that 2nd vid above, it very easily goes into the red

I don't remember ever having had problems with this but I will pass that on to the dev!

Edit: Dev asked me to post this email here which ppl can use for bug reports, feature requests etc:

  • I have to say it’s amazing. I’ve been looking for something like this for ages. Not too sure how the midi works compared to playing the keys but having a lot of fun figuring it out. It sounds awesome through lofiaf and rymdigare.

It made me think of playing (with a MIDI keyboard) a peak filter in apesofts apeFilter (which is also a great plugin).
Actually having a song/sample in a certain key, then playing it through resonatedo which you feed MIDI chords in that same key and then feeding that through an apeFilter peakfilter fed MIDI notes in that key sounds great to me.

    Cool! Some nice sounds there

  • Alexey's apps are mad stuff
But the "side quests" of other experiments are interesting use cases too, gotta say
