Heck that’s a rough outcome, sorry to hear that and I hope we can all learn lessons that save similar grief in the future…

Yeah man, I’m shocked because technically only two devices were plugged into the MacBook: Maschine MK3 and SSD external drive which house my expansions, which I feel may have put it over the top. Although, my Hyperdrive hub draws power but I ran the MacBook power cable through it. Could it be that running the expansions from SSD overloaded the logic board? 🤔

You might want to look into a powered hub that does not plug directly into the Macbook's ports and instead get an external powered hub and THEN connect to the computer. If no-name hubs and power cables can blow up Apple devices (and there have been many cases of not Apple-approved accessories doing this, especially cables), then try to avoid getting accessories which might be problematic. Look into which hubs and cables Apple will support... and whatever you do, get Apple Care+!

    (For example: https://www.apple.com/shop/product/HL9B2VC/A/belkin-usb-30-4-port-hub-usb-c-cable?fnode=da3363080a6a25723a127f2dbf84326cc0751da475d307d91184b9d6f94a8a72dc041043302dc052eeae2576ddc220220a5485a113980e1854d10b322888d9211424475daa2bbc3c83c6e2f8556be4729bbb0934b7db88d1bfb471adfeb9a86897d2838e40ae6c61b6902e43723d623a )

  • It might be worth taking it to a third party repair shop. I did that with my older MacBook Pro that refused to start. Cost a couple of hundred pounds but at least it's working.

    Good luck.

Thank you sir, good idea! I’m going to take it to Best Buy and just tell them it shut off and won’t come back on and let them figure it out. I’m curious to see if they come up with the same diagnosis.

  • You’ll have to pay for them to diagnose the issue though, on top of whatever the repairs might be.

I went to a Mac specialist 3rd party repair in the UK. It might be worth trying to find one of those.

It’s likely just a couple of blown components but more general place will suggest replacing the whole board rather then having a donor board which they can replace components.

    Good luck.

Yes, I think it’s $50 or more just to examine the computer. Might be more now.
